1interpreter Posted March 18 #1327 Share Posted March 18 Ship: Mariner of the Seas Deck: 9 Stateroom: 9598 Category: Jr. Suite Starboard or Portside: Port Obstructed views: none Quiet? For the most part this cabin was quiet. It is directly across the hall from a crew service door (where the room stewards get ice, towels etc.) so we did hear the noise from that sometimes when they would do stuff in there with the door (crew door) left open. If the balcony door is open it's pretty easy to hear deck chairs being moved around from the surrounding balconies, but we figured that would be expected. Voices seemed to carry from our neighbors as well when the balcony door was open. I keep it open a lot on my cruises if it's not to hot, and I just felt that we had some overly noisy neighbors on this cruise. Lol! Connecting room: No Aft cabin, if so was there any problems? N/A Specific problems? The top left drawer on the vanity does not open easily at all and there were times I thought that it was just going to break. Sometimes it was a struggle to get it opened and/or closed. Other comments: If you like to hang out on the balcony and/or leave the balcony door open a lot, be fore warned that the smell from Izumi Hibachi finds it's was up to your level and into your room each and every day and IT WILL MAKE YOU HUNGRY! I personally loved the smell, but if you don't like the smell of garlic and hibachi/Chinese food, then this is an area of the ship you just might want to avoid. Toilet side tiny. If you are over 6'2" or a large person, sitting on toilet very uncomfortable. Toilet paper holder in an awkward position. Tiny sink no storage in toilet area. No place for towel- hooks on back of the door but towel keeps falling on the floor. shower side of the bathroom better. Any other comments? -Cabin advertised as for three or four- small tiny room that has a couch and TV with a cabinet above the couch- Only good for one small child. Shouldn't be in the suite category. Very disappointing. Edited March 27 by Cruise a holic
Thomo7 Posted April 3 #1330 Share Posted April 3 Ship - Ovation of the Seas Deck - 13 Stateroom # - 654 Stateroom Category – 2D Starboard or Port Side - Starboard Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – Husband and I heard some tapping noises on occasion (not consistent or constant) which were hard to work out the origin of. However, the stateroom is located directly below the Coastal Kitchen so maybe that was the cause. Noises didn't continue all through the night and most nights we slept well and we're not particularly heavy sleepers. Next to no noise from the hallway and no noise from neighbouring staterooms although neighbours could be heard when out on the balcony which is to be expected. Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - no Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – Loved it, although when going through the 'sounds' in New Zealand couldn't see the tops of the mountains as the floor above (Deck 14) protrudes further out than Deck 13 and effectively creates an awning. Also, a supporting beam to the right side of our balcony gets in some photos but didn't bother us unduly. The Stateroom next to ours (13 652) had what appeared to be a window washers cage suspended above their balcony (see image) which would have blocked part of their view but didn't impede ours. We did need to go up to Deck 15 for full views due to the awning. Have read other reviews complaining a lot about this issue but for us it was only one day. Would not choose this location for destinations that had lots of mountains eg, Alaska, fjords. It did provide shade at certain times of day which was quite pleasant. Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Normal Was wind a problem? - Only on a day which had high winds, which would have impacted the whole starboard side of the ship. If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - No Any specific problems with this cabin? - No Any other comments? - Layout was great with the bed close to the balcony doors. Plenty of walk space which narrows around the end and balcony side of the bed but still easy enough to walk through. Lots of storage, we didn't need to use the cupboards above the bed at all. Husband said he felt the shower space was a little small. Plenty of shelves in the bathroom for toiletries etc. Everything was in great condition, no signs of wear anywhere. Electric kettle and instant coffee, teabags, sugar and long-life milks available in room which was amazing.
aww Posted April 3 #1331 Share Posted April 3 Ship - Explorer of the Seas Deck - 9 Stateroom # - 9558 Stateroom Category – Jr Suite Starboard or Port Side - Port Quiet Stateroom? Yes, quiet. Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - No Balcony View - No obstructions. The sides are solid steel so this balcony is much more private than ships with panels. But the front is not full glass as some ships are. This was true for all rooms. Balcony Size? Standard depth. Wider than standard as the room is wider. Was wind a problem? - Amazingly little even when other outdoor access was closed. If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - No Any specific problems with this cabin? - The one issue was a leak from a pipe above the balcony that dripped into the balcony. I reported it but they need a crew outside to fix. The only other comments to make is that the closets is AMAZING. The bathroom is also larger, with a tub, but smaller bathrooms have never bugged us. The room is very spacious, the window goes across the whole room, there are no obstructions and the closet holds more than you can bring on board even with checked luggage. The Explorer is older but we had no issues. Everything was clean.

Some thumping noises from fitness center BELOW were easy to ignore. This side is away from the fitness studio where loud music may be played for group workouts. Deck chairs that could make scraping noises are on the deck ABOVE, but it is hardly used due to wind. ALERT: Under some sea conditions, there was a continuous, rhythmic shudder every two or three seconds. Rather awful most of the time. Cabin attendant says Deck 12 has a couple cabins with this. Was wind a problem? - N/A If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - N/A Any specific problems with this cabin? - No Any other comments? - 1) The bathroom feels small, but the shower is larger than other ships and includes a seat. 2) There is room for a mobility scooter in the cabin, although this cabin seemed narrower than on the Oasis-class ships. We use the Pride GoGo Sport scooter with the armrests removed. We were not able to turn the scooter around in the sofa area. We were able to maneuver the scooter manually around the end of the bed into the infinite balcony area and turn it around there. 3) We weren't sure if we'd like the infinite balcony versus regular balcony, but it turned out we liked it better! It's air conditioned, has a couple of comfy chairs, a table and ottoman, and it keeps out the rain. We used this space much more often than we used a regular balcony. (With comments on problems) – Most elegant stateroom I've been in (better than Haven, aqua theater suites or crown lofts). Makes you feel like you are in the lap of luxury. Very nice to have a tv in the bedroom and then the living room so you can watch while your partner sleeps. Large shower and spacious bathroom with separate room for the toilet and bidet. However, that room with the toilet is right below a public bathroom and we had to keep the door closed 100 percent of the time or the waterfall noise from above was terrible. With the door closed it was ok. But still something you shouldnt have to hear or think about in the best suite on the ship also around 5 am there was cart noise from the restaurant above. Just a few minutes at a time in spurts and yes it's above the bed. it would not stop us from booking again especially at the super low discount price we got because of a unique itinerary. The hot tub was small and in need of cleaning and replacement. i dont think 2 avg size adults could fit in comfortably. The seating on the balcony was fantastic. 2 loungers, 2 seats at a real table we could dine at and it was wonderful. you have to have your doorbell deactivated when you get on board. all the suites had issues with kids. concierge tracked them down (i guess kids dont know about facial recognition? ) and they got a talking to. also we found that kids and adults liked to use our foyer outside our door as a meeting place or place to chat. a few seconds is fine but when you are having the meeting the length needed to in order to choose what barbie is gonna wear in her playhouse for the next week, it's annoying the walk through closet behind the bed is huge and fantastic and has motion detector lighting. lots of storage. there is a lounger in the bedroom at the large window which is fantastic and you can enter the balcony from the bedroom or your foyer. sadly the only 2 outlets in the room are at the desk, 10 feet away from the bed. and waaaay on the other side of the cabin near the dining room table, at floor level. unacceptable for the best suite on the ship but we carry a battery brick so no issues for us. the piano didnt play by itself but half thru the cruise they showed us an app to download on the phone and use the piano. super cool and im sure the neighbors loved it. we got a private tour of the bridge so ask your concierge! Very noisy location as it (and the others surrounding it on that side) is located directly above the schooner bar, so you hear games and musicians throughout the day and well into the evening, as the piano doesn't stop until midnight. Storage and cabinets are standard, room is in good condition overall, but I would not recommend it due to noise. We had side by side - 7634 and 7636 - and both were bad (that's the last time we use that TA).
