NinePoundHammer Posted August 10, 2010 #1 Share Posted August 10, 2010 Hey guys, New to the forums and pretty much new to crusing. My last cruise was probably about 13 years ago. I will be sailing on the Pride in January of 2011 with some friends. I'm trying to figure out what would be the best cabin to pick and on what deck. I'm not sure what room I'm booking yet; either interior, oceanview, or balcony. But are there certain rooms of each cabin that are bigger or better than others? How do the different decks effect your room? I really have no clue at all looking at it on the website. I will be crusing with some friends and we will have about three rooms so it would be nice to get them semi close to each other. Any other tips and info would be much appreciated. Thanks. bcs819 Posted August 10, 2010 #2 Share Posted August 10, 2010 Interior rooms are just about all the same size, regardless of where they are located. There are a few one-offs that didn't fit the floor plan, but price will increase as you go higher, or more towards the center of the ship. The same is true for oceanview and balcony cabins EXCEPT for the aft cabins which almost all have unique balconies. Tell your travel agent or Carnival rep who you are booking with, or book together, and they will make sure you are as close as possible depending on what you select. On a side note, she is my favorite ship. We have just booked her for a third time, the only ship we have ever three-peated!

emjay Posted August 10, 2010 #4 Share Posted August 10, 2010 I don't think I would spend the extra for the balcony that time of year as the first couple of days going out and the last day back back may be a bit chilly. Just a thought.
NinePoundHammer Posted August 10, 2010 Author #5 Share Posted August 10, 2010 I don't think I would spend the extra for the balcony that time of year as the first couple of days going out and the last day back back may be a bit chilly. Just a thought. You know that is a great point, I never even thought of it. I should have asked this in my first post: Is it better to be towards the front or rear of the ship, is the middle better than either of those, anything I don't want to pick a room under/near? Thanks.
serene56 Posted August 10, 2010 #6 Share Posted August 10, 2010 It also depends on the number of people staying in that cabin. we have 6232. (cant wait) holds 4 people But you are sailing in Janaury--- 4 days out of the 7 will be very cold- Can that warrant the price of a balcony? AZ Karaoke Girl Posted August 10, 2010 #7 Share Posted August 10, 2010 I love the Spirit class ships. Excellent choice. Might I recommend a 4K class cabin for you? I love these rooms. They are classified as an inside cabin but they have french doors that open for fresh air. They are obstructed so they used to be classified as 5A (obstructed ocean view) but they reclassed them as insides. And if you pick a cabin between lifeboats, the obstruction won't be nearly as bad as looking at the side of a lifeboat. I booked the Pride (see below) and loved it so much that I booked the same room on the Spirit this October. For deck/location, I like being a little lower because the dining room, casino and all the action is on decks 2 & 3. So the 4K's are perfect location. I usually pick the aft ones because a straight shot down the aft elevator or stairway is the entrance to the dining room.
sciencegal Posted August 10, 2010 #8 Share Posted August 10, 2010 We are just off the Pride. She is just a lovely ship. It was our second time on her and we enjoyed every moment! We had a balcony. I love a balcony. But given the time of year it may not be worth the money. That being said, having coffee out there appeals to me whatever the weather. Enjoy your cruise. Rare rrraydon Posted August 10, 2010 #9 Share Posted August 10, 2010 I agree with the balcony because I love having my coffee out there. But, if I was budgeting, I would go with the 4k. Like the prior post said. It is the same price as an inside room with the advantage of the view and open air, especially if one is a smoker. ;) The Pride is a great ship. I'll be on her in Dec and again in Feb since I enjoyed my last cruise on her so much!!!
NinePoundHammer Posted August 11, 2010 Author #10 Share Posted August 11, 2010 So the Super Saver discount was ending today me and my friends hurried up and just booked rooms. Went with an Oceanview, 1209. Lady on the phone was very helpful, said staying towards the center of the ship is a good idea so you feel less of the motion from the ocean. So now I'm pretty excited. Any times while aboard the ship, things a (pretty much) first time cruiser may not know? Thanks for all the comments.
littlesnit Posted August 11, 2010 #11 Share Posted August 11, 2010 May I suggest that you get pretty familiar with the Carnival web site. There really is a ton of information on there, like dining times and places, what to wear and when, what you can bring aboard, etc. Also try a search here on CC and as well as other sites and read some reviews. If you have more specific questions, don't be afraid to ask. One very informative review on CC is the one by falcor. You'll be reading for days, but I think it's worth the time. Hopefully, you'll really enjoy the Pride. Happy sailing.

I was just wondering about what attire is required for certain dining areas and such, so that will clear that up.
amchugh Posted September 28, 2010 #13 Share Posted September 28, 2010 If you can do an extended balcony and get stateroom 7258 or 7260. they have the largest balconies...I am sailing December 26th and grabbed that stateroom. There is 23 of us so I think they whole family can fit on this balcony.

If you do not have paper work showing a need the people in that cabin can be moved and be away from the rest of the family. (For a holiday sailing your chances of being moved are greater)
