Bayonne to LGA public transportation post cruise

I can give you the Bayonne to NY information. One of the New Yorkers can tell you about the NY to LGA piece of it. I do know from other discussions on this board that taking public transit to LGA is not pretty - it involves the subway to upper Manhattan and the bus from there.

When you disembark at Bayonne, you take a cab to the 34th St. light rail station, which is just outside the port ($8 plus tip). For $2.10/pp you take the light rail to Hoboken and transfer to Path ($1.75) to 33rd & 6th (Herald Square) in midtown Manhattan or take the light rail to Exchange Place and transfer to Path to the World Trade Center in lower Manhattan. Whichever you choose will depend on what you want to do in Manhattan. Both routes are friendly to folks with luggage.

Did you want check your luggage and do something in NY? How about taking an airport bus from Manhattan to LGA?

We will only have one suit case with us so really no need to check the bag. Perhaps do a lunch in Manhattan and that way we can take an airport bus to LGA...Where would I grab one of these and what is aprox cost?

Here's a web site for the bus - http://www.ny.com/frame?url=http://www.nyairportservice.com&frame=/frame/travel.html

It looks like 2 people would be $19 if you can use the online special. Cab is $35-40. The bus starts at Penn Station, stops at Port Authority and Grand Central and then goes to the airport. This would be a good choice - I really don't recommend the public transit option to LGA.

However, the public transit option from Bayonne is very cost effective and would be easy with one suitcase. The cab or car service options from Bayonne to Manhattan are much more expensive because there are 2 states involved.

This is perfect. I did not want to spend the entire day sitting at LGA waiting so now we can put in time by touring around a bit.

thankx.

If you take PATH from NJ to Herald Square, Penn Station will be only a (long) block away.

thankx..my plan is coming together ..

Any recommendations for lunch as I am sure we will be hungry by the time we hit Herald Square. I would assume I will be in the heart of things and

some great spots for lunch.
