Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!!!! We are geading out on the Grandeur on 9-20 for the 5 night to Grand Cayman and Cozumel. Getting soooo excited!!! Just wondering if anyone is recently off and can tell what the entertainment was onboard. Any good comedians or anything not to miss?? Also if anyone has copies of the Cruise Compass that they would like to share for the 5 night. Thanks in advance!!!!! :D

Hi! We did this itinerary on 6/28/10. Nice ship, good food, decent entertainment. The music poolside was great and always had that "caribbean feel" to it. Apparently we had two cruise directors (or something like that), they were married and tag teamed pretty much everything. Nice people but VERY upbeat. We had a good time. No complaints. Have fun!! :)

My 11 year old daughter and I just got off the Granduer on Sat night. We did the same itnerary you're doing and had a wonderful time. The entertainment was pretty good. Brad Cummings is a ventriloquist who had everyone laughing.:p Team Rootberry are jugglers and quite funny. The RCI dancers did a couple of shows, the usual song and dance type. The last day at sea is the Captain's cook off in the Centrum, lots of fun. Be prepared for very humid weather in port, the kind that makes camera lenses fog up! Someone recently did a review with lots more info. Type Granduer in the thread search box and I'm sure you'll find it. Have fun;)

:) We will also be on that cruise. We are so excited. I look at our countdown calendar daily! I am so ready for a break. I have found a couple of the compasses by searching for Grandeur. But they have been for the 4 night. I haven't found any for the 5 night. I guess we will wait and be surprised.

All I have seen are the 4 night ones also. Glad you will be joining us on the cruise. I am traveling with my boyfriend, but we are meeting up with a big group from NC that I met last year on the Monarch. There will be about 44 of us all together. It should be a really great time!!!! Have you joined the roll call for the cruise? Not much action on there, but I still check it everyday, lol!!!! See you soon!!!!!!!!!! :D

Leaving on Sept 11 and will reply to this thread when we get back. This is our 4th cruise on the Grandeur. Love the ship. Don't miss the french fries in the Solarium snack area at lunch time.

My wife and I were on the Grandeur just a couple of weeks ago. We sailed her many years ago and were eager to see how she looks today. I am glad to say, she is beautiful. Slight wear on our balcony, but all public areas were gorgeous and almost looked new.

The only thing that I noticed that were not working were the original fountains on the ship. Several in different places from the Centrum, Solarium and pool area. No big deal though, but I bet they added a nice touch when they did use them. Most people probably didn't even notice them.

Grandeur is a wonderful size vessel. Big enough to be "big" but not too big so that you walk yourselves silly. Food was good. Not fabulous, but good. Service was excellent in all venues. There were a couple of religious symbols in the Solarium that annoyed us. Won't go into detail here, but you can check them out yourself. That was the ONLY negative. I complained to the appropriate authorities for whatever good that might do.

The food in the Wind Jammer was descent. We ate breadfast there every morning. Always enjoyed the view!! I just wish they served real eggs. Oh well, my Ma Ma always said, "if you want it to be like home...stay there".

We always enjoy the Viking Crown Lounge during the day!! It is our favorite place on the ship to watch all the activities around the pool and take in the scenery on sail aways or just cruising. Nice quiet spot to play cards too.

One afternoon towards the end of the cruise the band set up in the Centrum and played big band music. LOVED that!!! Don't miss it. We love to watch people that can dance good and were really entertained by 4 couples that were apparently from a dancing club in their hometowns.

We turned Diamond with this cruise and that really made it special for us!!

Have a ball on your cruise!!!

For anyone who sailed the Grandeur recently, and stopped in Cozumel, can you please tell me if the ship docks downtown, or the International pier?

It docks at the International Pier.

We sailed the Grandeur in July and loved it. Our favorite favorite entertainer was a comedian named El Gaucho, if he is scheduled on your cruise try to see him, he is multi talented and very fun to watch!

Thanks, Luvsun. I was hoping it docked downtown, but... oh well.... We always go to the comedy shows, and particularly like the *late night* ones... :)

Our roll call is wondering....has the BEER COOLER PROMOTION made in onto Grandeur yet?

Anyone just off of Grandeur know? :D

Yes it has. The price is really the same at 8 singles ($34 + 15%) but you get the cooler. I read somewhere that there's a discount for a "refill" but I can't confirm that.

We got off the Grandeur today. Lovely ship, looking slightly shabby, especially the balconies. Very crowded Windjammer and pool too crowded to do anything but stand. The entertainment was an adult comedian - we never stayed up that late, but people really enjoyed him and a juggling team called Team Rootberry - they were OK. The singers were very talented, dancers were OK. The best part of the entertainment were the daily announcements from Captain Rob - a great sense of humor and the cruise director, John, who had a great singing voice.

The Diamond Event was in the Champagne Lounge each night. It is a boxed in area that seats about 20. They serve complimentary wine, beer, and soda - no snacks. It was too claustrophobic for us, so we left after a few minutes. There is no Diamond party- just a Crown and Anchor party for everybody - about 800 people were invited. The Diamond and Diamond Plus booklets give you 30 minutes of free internet (45 minutes for Diamond Plus) and a free photo. Most of the other perks required the presence of specialty restaurants and the Grandeur has none (a free specialty coffee if you ate in a specialty restaurant) two for one milkshakes at Johnnie Rockets (there is none), etc. You can get a bag of laundry done for free the last day.

My husband and I just got off Grandeur this past Thursday. While she doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles, Grandeur doesn't need it. The staff alone is worth the price of admission. From Captain Rob Hempstead all the way down to our assistant waitress Tashoy, every single staff member that we came in contact with (Cruise Director John Blair and his wife, assistant Cruise Director Katrina Blair, stateroom attendant Wiko White, Catherine in the casino, Arnold and Samuel in the dining room, Kathrin at the guest services desk, and on and on...) was the most gracious, appreciative, and welcoming staff we have ever experienced on a cruise ship (and this cruise put us at Diamond Plus, so we've cruised often).

I am in the middle of writing a letter to Adam Goldstein praising the unparallelled staff aboard Grandeur of the Seas. We didn't even get off the ship!!! (I heard a rumor that it stopped in Key West and Cozumel.)

For anyone going on Grandeur, you will love it for many reasons, but none can compare to the absolutely fantastic staff.

Enjoy your cruise!!!

Stephie
