patcacmt Posted June 16, 2004 #6 Share Posted June 16, 2004 I saw some for sale at the Straw Market in Nassau. It was at the far end, in the front, near where some guys were carving. I asked about a small one and the price was $50 but it was getting lower as I walked away. I decided I probably couldn't fit it in my luggage and had no more carry on options for my flight home. woodz Posted June 16, 2004 #7 Share Posted June 16, 2004 The really good ones are very expensive, but the little ones, about 4" high are around $25 dollars or so. Look on e-bay to get an idea of what they look like. We wanted to get our son one last year (he is the drum line section leader at his HS and plays in a jazz and punk band). It is a big investment, but sooooo coooool!! If you find a bargain, please let us know. If I find a bargain I will be sure to share it when I get back. Only three more months to wait. HappyStamper Posted November 17, 2004 #9 Share Posted November 17, 2004 Did you end up purchasing a steel drum? If so, where, how much, and how did you get it home? My son is a percussionist and I think the drum would be a unique souvenier Christmas gift!
KimberlyH Posted November 18, 2004 #10 Share Posted November 18, 2004 bumping this one up too - we're doing the 4-day Bahamas cruise on the Sovereign in December and my 16 year old would love to bring one home.
cruzin2paradise Posted November 18, 2004 #11 Share Posted November 18, 2004 This was a great question. One of my cruise critic friends is going to look for steel drums for her son . . . we're taking the western route starting Saturday (Labadee, Ocho Rios, Grand Cayman & Cozumel) so any suggestions would be great. Thanks!
