Azamara Journey Casino

Hi

I'm new to the forum (something that I think is fantastic) and am thinking of booking a cruise on Azamara Joruney.

I think the ship looks great, and the praise on this forum is convincing me. My wife and I are thinking about doing a cruise early next year and we want to use the time to unwind.

However, there is very little on this forum about the casino onboard. I'm not some avid gambler, but I do like to play a bit of roulette and blackjack in the evenings.

I've found on Azamara's website the tables they have etc but I want to know what people think of it?

Is it busy? What are the table stakes? What are the dealers like? (friendly, fun, nationality?)

Do other cruises play "big", I don't want to be messing up someones $500 bet with my $10 stake!

Also I'm a little confused about the "all inclusive tip payment". Do the dealers get that as well? I usually tip when I get a big win or had a good evening so I don't want to not tip and find they get nothing.

I don't play a lot amount of money ($50-$100) and it's not a huge part of the cruise but I just wanted to know peoples experiences.

By the way, my wife hates it!

Regards

Edd

The Casino staff on Journey is international, funny and tolerant. On my Journey cruise there was not much Casino action, so do not worry about the "High Rollers". You get to laugh and learn. James, the Casino manager(on my cruise) and his international staff of dealers etc., were outstanding individuals, always engaging and helpful. I learned to play Roulette onboard and a one time 11 Black hit was a thrill. I kept a chip autographed by James as my trip souvenir. The all inclusive tip policy does not include the casino dealers, who make their $$ on tips. The Casino bartender was "Victor" he will pour you a scotch to ease your pain

Go enjoy

Hi Edd !

The Casino is smaller, as compared to what you would expect on the Larger lines, but as Journey and Quest are smaller ships, we felt the size of the Casino was fine. Generally, it wasnt very busy - though it will vary from sailing to sailing. When I was onboard, in most cases the Minimum bet was $5. I'm not sure if that has changed. Regarding what others are betting ? I never worry about it. Just have a great time !

As for tips, I'm all but certain the Casino staff does not share in the inclusive tipping, so if you feel inclined to tip, I'm sure it would be appreciated.

I hope this helps. Enjoy your Cruise !

Welcome to Cruise Critic EDD1986!

On our summer sailing on the Journey I often felt like I was the only one in the Casino and I only play slots. My DH plays craps but there was no table. I think he did a few rounds of poker. If memory serves, the minimum bets were raised later in the evening, nothing you could not handle.

Normally on RCI family ships the Casino is staffed by a leased operation. I know if I am wrong someone will definitely correct me. A tip is always appreciated. I've never had a Casino employee turn one down.

We were on a very port intensive sailing and I must chalk up a lack of traffic in the casino to fatigue. We were not that old of a sailing contingent either.

Book your cruise. We can't wait to sail again on Azamara.

Nope! As I said above, the tables were very quiet on our cruise too and we were on the Singapore to Athens with 7 consecutive sea days.

I really think that it varies from cruise to cruise. We were on a very port intensive Med cruise and there were evenings when you had to wait for a spot to open at the blackjack tables. Other evenings, it was wide open. On our most recent Caribbean cruise, there were some evenings when you couldn't get a slot machine but the tables were empty. I don't think that any definitive answers can be given as to how busy things will be. But, it is fun to play and the staff is wonderful.

The casino on the Quest was nicer than I expected on a ship this size and the staff was very friendly. The casino managers were fun and accessible. As others have said, the crowds were inconsistent but there were usually some people at the black jack tables and the minimums were $10. We played slots and Texas Hold 'Em.

  • 3 weeks later...

I missed not having a crap table, but since the ship's casino is too small, they don't have one.

However, just noted someone saying they played "texas hold um". Did not have it on my Transalantic Journey cruise last year...if they have one then

"IM ALL IN.
