sb1041 Posted November 20, 2010 #1 Share Posted November 20, 2010 We will be in St. Marteen in January on the Dream. What is the best way to get to Orient Beach? What part of the beach is the best? Is there a single drop off and pick up location here? We would also like to see Marigot, how do we get there from the beach? Should we go to Marigot first and then the beach, or vise versa? gtaylor Posted November 20, 2010 #2 Share Posted November 20, 2010 Your best means of transport would certainly seem to be by taxi, point-to-point. Which part of the beach is the best is certainly open to discussion. There are two major drop points on Orient, at Pedro's and Bikini, and another possible, but unusual, at Boo Boo Jam. I'd go to Marigot first, as many of the shops are closed during the early afternoon. gary

We walked to the taxi stand (just off the pier to the right) and hired a driver for the day. She took us to Marigot so we could shop for an hour or so, then took us to Orient so we could spend about 3 hrs there. We got chairs and umbrellas at Le String- very nice! She then took us back to the pier. It was $6 per person each leg of the trip, for a total of $18 pp. Not bad at all!

Now that sounds exactly what we would like. when you got to the taxi stand, how did you tell the difference between a one-way taxi to a beach or area and a single taxi-person offerring their service for the day like you described? Was she licensed? (her name? lol because I can look for her!!) Thanks for any additional info!

Also, it must have been prior to the rate increase last September. The new rate to Marigot is $7 with six or more. Rates are posted on the official taxi website. gary

Was she licensed? (her name? lol because I can look for her!!) Thanks for any additional info! The taxi area at the pier is split into different routes. You will find a coordinator there asking you what you would like to do for the day as you approach the stand, and he will point you in the right direction. From there you discuss the price with the driver, and you're off for the day. You can see details on our day in my review of the Serenade (link in my signature). Happy sailing!
