Grand Prix Racer Posted December 11, 2010 #1 Share Posted December 11, 2010 We want to know what indoor activities are available during the day on cruises out of NYC or Baltimore what the ship leaves in the winter and it is too cold to sit outside. At what point inb the cruise were people spending time outside during the day as the ship worked its way down to the Caribbean?

c&d Posted December 11, 2010 #3 Share Posted December 11, 2010 We cruised out of Baltimore last Jan. Last year was a particurarly bad year for snow and winds. Casino was open Carnival had the normal actiivities that all cruises have indoor. The pool area was open weather permitting, ony a few takers on hot tub. Really did not warm up until we stopped in Port Canaveral for the day. We were able to sit on our verandah bundled up in our winter coats and a blanket. The few days we were down in Bahamma people were enjoying the sunshine. The coming and going days were too cold and windy to enjoy the outside. Not something I would recommend unless price is right. Also keep in mind last year winter was brutal and seas were very rough in January. I personally will not cruise out of Baltimore during the winter again. firefly333 Posted December 11, 2010 #4 Share Posted December 11, 2010 I remember a blizzard in Baltimore the day before one cruise was to leave and someone coming on here, asking about getting a future cruise credit because their street had not been shoveled, so they had not driven the 30 miles or so to the port. Id be wary of Baltimore in the winter too and plan on getting to the port the day before if you KNOW there will be a blizzard... even two days before if that is what it takes, unless you have weather coverage insurance. golfadj Posted December 11, 2010 #5 Share Posted December 11, 2010 Last Oct we cruised to Canada out of NY and was too cold for outdoor activities. They will have more activities like trivia but certainly not as much to do as on a day when it was 80 degrees and Sunny.
c&d Posted December 11, 2010 #6 Share Posted December 11, 2010 I remember several post and thread last year about people grumbling about cruisers making it to Baltimore because of weather. I think several who were Firefly missed the ship. I think we sailed in between the worst of the storms. As I said earlier I would not recommend Baltimore in the winter. Even flying from Ohio in winter to Florida can be tricky. We always go in a day or 2 early just for that reson.
bluehenfan Posted December 11, 2010 #7 Share Posted December 11, 2010 We were on the Pride in late Jan. last year. I thought we'd be bored, but we slept late, played cards, read, people watched, played trivia, attended a couple daytime activities we'd normally skip... My job at the time was very stressful and this was the most relaxing vacation I'd ever had. We had been to bahamas so many times we never got off the ship in Nassau or Freeport and enjoyed the almost empty hot tubs. Will be sailing again next month. First time I'd ever won anything on board. I ended up with 2 medals and a ship on a stick - had a great time. No, it wasn't real warm and a little different from my usual summer cruises, but sitting out on our balcony in Cocoa Beach, while a blizzard was hitting the area near Baltimore where I live, felt really good !! patseacruiser Posted December 11, 2010 #8 Share Posted December 11, 2010 I agree with Bluehenfan. I have cruised out of Bayonne only during the winter and that day goes by so quick. It's a great opportunity to sleep in because you aren't all hyped up waiting to get outside. You can stroll the shops, casino is open on sea day, trivia, afternoon tea, there are games and activities and the day just goes by and before you even realize it's getting warm out.
