girlscruise2011 Posted April 19, 2011 #126 Share Posted April 19, 2011 I only drink Bud, period. I never really worry about cost etc until I realized the drink coupons ($5.75 ea) included gratuity would mean I would save 15% on every beer purchased. Before seeing this thread I emailed Carnival asking exactly how many "Buds" are given per bucket and the TOTAL amt (inc gratuity). I am a Platinum member but forget the price/# of beers, whether the price inc gratuity etc. ** I am sailing on the Miracle in a few weeks and haven't seen 12oz cans of Bud in at least 3 years so I'm not sure some of the info is relevant - although VERY MUCH APPRECIATED ** I am as far from frugal as possible but also know I (we) spend a lot on beer during the cruise so figured might as well find out the best method to purchase. As of now it's either drink coupons (save 15%) and/or buckets. Again, I've only seen 16oz alum offered in the past 3-4 yrs. I would like to know (100%) the # of 16oz buds in a bucket and the 'total' cost (inc tip). THX!!! I read on here that if you buy the buckets on the Lido Deck you save $2 on the cost of the 4 so with the $2 savings plus 15% gratuity your looking at the $24.15 per bucket. If you order the bucket from room service or from other locations where you don't get the discount, your looking at full price of $26.45 per bucket including the gratuity. I'm buying the coupons too. If you use them on the Lido deck, your still saving $1.15 per bucket even with the $2 savings.

mprince4 Posted April 19, 2011 #128 Share Posted April 19, 2011 I SOOOO appreciate this spreadsheet, since my husband is a beer-only guy. I have one (kinda silly) question: If ordering a bucket and it's not all consumed at the venue, is it allowed to take back to your room to be put on ice by the steward? I have seen other people say that when ordering buckets of bottles, they just ask for 1 bottle to be opened (otherwise they may open all of them) and then take the rest back to the room. I plan to do this if I can, and I don't see why you couldn't!

shenay Posted April 19, 2011 #130 Share Posted April 19, 2011 Trying to figure out the best (cheapest) way to enjoy some cold ones whilst sailing the sea I came up with this chart in Excel. It shows prices with and without gratuities, bucket prices, and what I consider to be the best bang for your buck deals. I've found that buying a bucket of (4) 12oz Budweiser/Bud Light cans plus 1 extra 12oz can be a better deal than the (4) 16oz Bud/Bud Light bucket. By buying a bucket of the 12oz and an extra single can equals 60oz for $20.88 versus 64oz and $24.71 for the (4) 16oz bucket. Anyway take a look at my chart :D I love spreadsheets AND beer, so this is perfect...Thanks! I was just wondering if an ABV analysis was done if that would skew the results a bit? ...most buzz for your buck so to speak :)

Normally only the lido deck bar and sports bar will sell the buckets.......so with each place you will get the discount. Ordering beer separately you get no discount......don't order from room service because then you will be paying double on tips.....the auto gratuity and room service gratuity..... If you don't see the 12 oz buds you need to ask the bartender.......some ships have them and others don't. But we noticed that they don't have them out on display on most ships.......so be sure to ask.
MissDiva1 Posted April 19, 2011 #133 Share Posted April 19, 2011 I see what your saying but are these bucket prices before or after gratuities? I was kind of checking out Guiness, Heineken or Corona Light. I dont really think those prices are too bad for cruise prices. Actually his chart has the wrong price for gratuity......for example a 16 oz bud is $5.75 plus 86 gratuity = $6.61 not $6.76.

We had the drink package on celebrity with gratuities it was 39 a day. I can tell you we got our money worth and then some.:) There are 4 coupons good for 4 drinks up to $5.75 including gratuity. You can use all 4 for a bucket of 4 beers. Any drink over $5.75 most times they will add the difference plus the 15% gratuity on the difference to your S&S card. The coupons can be purchased through the Bon Voyage Department.
