Don, I hope you're out here today.

We have a few friends that do cruises. We asked what was a reasonable amount of money to bring on a 14 day southern caribbean cruise. Before I tell their response, let me say that we have the classic beverage package purchased for my husband; I don't drink MUCH so I will be paying as I go for water; etc. We have already paid our gratuities and have paid for the specialty restaurant that we chose. We don't plan on doing any big excursions; I plan on doing some shopping in each of the ports and of course my Husband is going to gamble. Nothing huge, but nonetheless. We are parking at a friend's home in Ft. Lauderdale so we don't have parking cost. Our cruise if basically paid for with the exception of tipping extra to our cabin stewards; etc. So, our friends each suggested $500 - $750 per day.

With all the experience of some of you out here, tell me really what would be a reasonable amount per day.

Thank you.

We just returned yesterday from an 11 night Equinox cruise. With a budget of $260.00/day/couple, here is what we were able to purchase:

- 3 x 1 Litre bottles of Spirits and accompanying mixers to enjoy in our Stateroom.

- 1 Premium Unlimited Non-Alcoholic Beverage Pkg.

- Ships Excursions in 4 ports. 2 were "Deluxe".

- Dining in 2 Specialty Restaurants

- Manicure at Aquaspa x 2.

- A pre-dinner martini or cocktail each, every evening at either the Martini or Molecular Bar.

- a Martini tasting "'flight" and Margharita tasting '"flight".

- A $35 -$50 bottle of wine every other night at dinner.

- Poolside cocktail or beer each daily

- Nightcap each at a show or bar after dinner.

- Internet services to check e-mail.

- 1 photo

- Pre-paid gratuities plus an additional $460.00 cash left onboard throughout our cruise and on the last night to our Stateroom and Dining Room staff.

- $200.00 additional cash for port/dockside cabs, baggage handlers, meals and beverages etc.

We spent $0.00 on shopping and gambling. Carried $700 in cash with $200 of that in $1 and $5 for everyday tipping. Balance on our $USD Credit Card with our budgeted amount set aside at home to pay the entire balance due.

Only you can guess at what your personal spending amounts for shopping etc. might be.

And we could not have wanted for anything more for our fabulous cruise at $260/day.

It's YOUR vacation and take as much money as you can afford and have no regrets about not having done something you wanted to but didn't have the money. I sugesst you take $2K in cash to get started (mostly $100's ...easier to carry and you can break the bills up as needed at the casino cage or Guest Relations). The rest you can take in $500 denomination travellers cheques (they come 5 to a pack) and some $100 travellers cheques. Just came back from a 7 day cruise and took $5,500. Planned on $300 per day in casino (didn't spend it all because I won on 3-4 days), took cash for 3 days in FLL., my wife did the spa, we went to Murano and Bistro on 5, also bought about $1k in jewelery in St. Thomas,(cash) got the premium drink package for 2, bought the pictures. My bill on the ship was $1200-$1300 (this included the drink packages) and I paid for it with travellers checks on the day before debarkation. Came home with$1300 in travellers checks

Go and enjoy and have ne regrets!!

We did a 7 day cruise to Mexico with 3 ports in 2009.

Our bill for 2 was $1200.

We paid for:

- 3 day tours

- hot bamboo massage x2 ( so not worth it at $260pp)

- lots of photos

- wine/mixed drink with dinner every night

- we put a few dollars through the casino

- bought some jewelery (again not worth it)

- a few souvenirs from the onboard shop

- laundry on 3 days

Our gratuities were prepaid but the service was excellent so paid a little extra. I think my hubby would have a heart attack if our bill was even $500 total for our upcoming 10 day cruise. I have prepaid everything, so only need spending money for souvenirs.

You can have a very nice time on a lot less money than that. You do not need $500 to $750 per day for spending money. Think more like $100 to $150 per day and that would be for the two of you.
