Lugguage storage in Rome

Has anyone used the left lugguage in Rome? Thanks Kimberley

You can leave luggage at the main train station, Termini. It's on the bottom floor. Your luggage goes through an x-ray machine. It costs only a few euros.

I've used the left luggage office at Termini several times. You need to be sure that you leave yourself some "pad" time when going to pick your stuff up, because sometimes you can wait up to 20 minutes in line.

It is a manned storage office, not lockers. You deposit your bags with the staff and get a receipt for them in return. When you want them back, you wait on a different line (from the drop off line), hand in the receipt, and they are brought to you.

Thank you. Would you say this would be a good base to see some of Rome? Our flight isn't until the evening. Thanks Kimberley

Yes, if you have luggage it's probably the best option. If the Colosseum is on your list of places to see, once you've dropped off your luggage you can get on the metro right at the train station and take it two stops and you're there. You could also use the metro from Termini to quickly get to the Spanish Steps or Trevi fountain.

That's excellent advice about adding some extra "pad" time. Most of us forget that we're not the only ones wanting a service. We almost missed a train once because some clueless tourist ahead of us wanted to have a discussion on every single option available on the schedule. Lesson learned.
