Navy lodge at pearl harbor???

Has anyone every stayed at the Navy Lodge Pearl Harbor? We are thinking about staying two nights before our Dec 2011 cruise on POA. How convenient is this lodge with sightseeing Honolulu? We really didn't want to bother renting a car since there will be 5 of us. Would we be able to get taxi service there? Can you also tell me are there restaurants close by?

Thanks,

Friends stayed there a year ago--but they had a car. No facilities such as restaurants. Not sure about taxi on to Ford Island.

If you are eligible to stay there, why not stay at the Hale Koa. Great location in Waikiki, lots of restaurants, taxi service, etc.!

We stayed at the Navy Lodge on Ford Island last year. It is distant from most things and there is a controlled access bridge to get there. We had a rental car so had no problems. The lodge was great, even had a brown bag breakfast you could carry with you or eat in the room. There is not much to do on Ford Island except for the museum and the USS Missouri. No shuttle bus for access that we found. Rate was much cheaper than the Hale Koa, but more than the Lodge at Hickam. Cost us around $89 a night back then. Check out the DOD Lodging site for more info.

You made the right decision staying at the Hale Koa. Gorgeous property. Right in the middle of it all and beach front.

The Navy Lodge would be very basis and you would have been way too far from Honolulu without a car. No restaurants near there and taxis would have cost you a fortune.
