I believe I read somwhere when you go on the ship's tours, you do not neeed a visa. Do you or don't you?? Do you need a visa when you travel with on of the private tour companies??

Thanks!

Tim

For Russia if you do a ships shore excursion or if you do one with a licensed guide Eg: SPB, ALLA, Red October

No VISA is required

If you want to wander off on your own you WILL require a VISA

Here is the definitive answer:

EVERYONE visiting Russia needs a visa...

There are two types: Individual visas and group visas...

When you book a tour with ANY tour provider, whether it be a cruise line shore excursion or a private tour with SPB, Red October, Denrus, Alla or any of the other larger tour providers, THEY acquire the group visa on your behalf and that cost is invisible within your tour or shorex price...You have a visa that applies for anytime you are with your tour.

The bottom line is that MOST of us do not to otherwise need to acquire an individual visa. That only becomes an issue if you want to venture out without a tour or shore excursion.
