Blue Mountain Question

Looks like it is pretty easy to use city rail to the Blue Mountains then use the trolley tour to get to all the sights. Anyone use this option over a guided tour? It is certainly considerably cheaper and would appear to allow you to pick and choose how much time you spend at each stop.

I have not used public transport to get to the Blue Mountains, but I have used the trolley while staying in the mountains. It is a great way to get around to the attractions.

Depending on where you are staying in Sydney, public transport should be pretty easy to get to the mountains.

Hope you enjoy your time there.

It's straightforward - you just need to get to Central station. The only thing is you need to be aware of time as the mountains are a fair distance away and being on a tour takes you even further away from the train connections back.

Last year at alomst the exact same date, we did exactly what you are suggesting. We were staying in the Mercure right across the street from the station. We took the train to the Blue Mountains (it took about an hour and a half). Once there we boarded the HO HO (Hop on Hop off) trolley and had a wonderful time. A suggestion. there is a package you can but from the Austrailan tourism bureau. It ios about $250 per person but it allows not only travel on all the cities transportation (bus, water ferry, trains etc) but it also includes a couple of free tours in Sydney, the HO HO bus in the Blue Mountains and the train to get most of the way there. Your pass takes you to the limits of the suburbs then you simply pay the difference to get to the Blue Mountains(do this at the main train station). I think we paid like $13 each for the extension. This "Pass" is also good for admitance into several places in Circular Quay like the Wildlife expo and the aquariium. While a little expensive, if you do everything on it you save a lot of money. It even gives you free entry into the tower!. Enjoy your trip. Australia is amazing.

Cheers, Kenn

PS Go see the tea museum at the last stop of the Ho Ho. Free tea and Scones with the pass!!

You are exactly right. You go where you want, stay as long as you like and depart on your own schedule. And...you save considerable money.
