OBC Question

Hello All,

Bare with me, i've never been on a cruise so i'm not quite sure how OBC works. Trying to figure it out before I take the plunge. :D

1. If I already have say $300 OBC and put cash instead of a CC on my account but don't actually use all the cash during the trip.. does the OBC get dissolved at the end?.. or does it get used first?

I would hate to lose free $.. well not exactly free but you know what I mean lol

Once they post the OBC to your account it will reduce your bill by that amount so it should be used first and any cash left that you put down, you can retrieve at the end of the cruise.

It's all the same account. They are not drawing out of the OBC account and then having a "cash" account. When you give them cash, it all goes into your account (OBC). Then you just use it however you want...shopping, dining, excursions and so on. At the end, if there is anything left over in the account, you go to the desk and get a refund. If you go over, you settle up with them and pay anything that is owed with either cash or your cc you used to secure the OBC. But it's not "divided" up into different accounts and pulled from here first and there last. :)

Am I correct in assuming OBC can be used to pay for shore excursions, casino, specialty restaurants, tips (room service, butler, concierge, spa, bartender, etc.), on-board shops, photos, laundry and internet access? Anything else or any ideas?

Not positive about casino, but yes on everything else for sure. It will also pay for bowling, the video arcade and vending machines. :)

Yes, it pays for everything but the casino. I remember putting money on my OBC to cover casino expenses, but they told us we had to either use cash or use a card with the money on it I believe. I do remember doing something different than OBC because i can remember being a little upset that I wasn't told this prior (when I was putting money onto my OBC every so often so that all expenses would be paid by the time we sailed) and now I was having to put out more more for the casino. It wasn't a problem in the end. We just had the money left over on OBC. :)

Doing GREAT Mike. Planning my next 9/11 cruise. I was thinking about going with Carnival (either Triumph or Legend), but after the last several days of research, I just don't think I can give up the freestyle or everything NCL has to offer. Plus, I just like the way their ships look. :D

I thought OBC could be used toward any purchases on ship, but could NOT be used toward tips at the end of the week????? and btw, if you don't use it, you lose it....you never get $$$ back of OBC. Say you have $300OBC and you only spend $200, you will not get $100 back and you still have to pay the weekly gratuity.

My weekly gratuity and everything I did on board was all taken out of my OBC that I had built up prior to the cruise. They explained to me both on the phone and once I got there that it's all the "same" running account. I didn't pay anything at the end of the cruise and even got money back.

Some people (even at NCL on the phone) that even though I had everything paid up onto my OBC prior to cruising, they would probably require that I put a cc down at the time we would board in the amount of whatever the gratuity was going to be. That didn't happen either. When they ask for it, I politely told them it was all on my OBC and they said "ok", gave me my card and on we went. :)
