Navigator pulled from Europe and I'm not happy

Recommended Posts

Celebrity cancelled the Century Oct. 13, 2010 Med. cruise due to mechanical problems and "dumped" people off in Nice on the third day of the cruise. There were all kinds of problems with people getting home. Since Celebrity is owned by Royal Caribbean, you could check those threads to see what Celebrity ended up doing as compensation - after a great deal of uproar, the compensation changed. I was on the TA following that cruise - we did not know if we were going to sail. We learned about the problem from the passengers getting off - no word from Celebrity.

Maybe you could get a Celebrity cruise in place of your RCCL cruise?

Have spent a very frustrating few hours trying to speak with both the TA and RCI about a possible replacement cruise. Bottom line, it would cost us as much to take a shorter cruise in a lower grade cabin in order to get the $200.00 OBC. The so called 'Protected Rate' only applies if you book a more expensive cruise in a like for like cabin. As we were originally on a 14 night cruise and the only similar cruises are 12 nights, there is no chance to take advantage of that. Also the RCI cruise prices are higher than the agent could offer on a new booking, thereby making the OBC worthless.

Nice way to treat Loyal to Royal customers!!!! :(

:) Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions - I've explored them all. But the airfare is the problem. The airline can't help us as we booked thru a "search engine" who has in fact blocked out our booking - of course, so that they can charge a fee for the change.

The tickets were non refundable (which I knew), but will charge $250pp (4 of us - 16 in our group)) to change - and if airfare goes up, so does my bill....RCI is only offering $200pp for the change - of course better that eating the whole thing. And we can't rebook for about 3 months because the new cruise we are considering is in May 2012.

The air insurance we purchased covers just about everything except "they cancelled your cruise", so they're of little help. Plus, RCI refuses to prepare us a letter outlining why they cancelled a cruise except to say "sorry for the inconvienence".

RCI does offer a similiar cruise in May 2012, which I may have to suck up and book - pay the additional airfare fees and roll with the punches....but I'm just very disappointed with RCI's customer service. I certainly don't expect anything for free....just wish they were somewhat simpathatic toward my problem......and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

 Oh yeah, and to the critics: I booked this cruise about a month before the unrest...... and booked the airfare as early as I could because it was riseing everyday....I did buy the insurance but the last thing I thought of or expected was that the cruise line would cancel. I figured I had the bases covered .......but I've learned a valuable lesson!

We've only just returned from our Liberty cruises (yesterday) to learn our Navigator cruise for next March has been cancelled:mad:. Our TA has informed us that RCI has instructed them that we have to make a decision by tomorrow for what we intend to do? Obviously we have asked for an extension as we haven't even received a copy of the letter giving us the options:confused:. Actually, we can't believe the future cruise specialist didn't tell us while we were on the ship booking future cruises that the one on Navigator had been cancelled. Especially as we were discussing that particular cruise with her:mad:.

As there are no other ships available in the Med at that time, does anyone know if we change to another date later in the year for a shorter cruise, do we still get the compensation? What about if we had reserved 2 cabins on Navigator but only book one for another ship/date? As we haven't received anything in writing, we're a little confused as to what we're being offered??? Luckily, we hadn't booked any airfares (so sorry for those that had).

I for one will not book a cruise anymore early.

To much changes and price drops.

Never had a problem getting a airfare to anywhere 21 days in advance of the cruise.

I cruise any ship and any cabin as long as I get to cruise.

I booked my past Oasis cruise almost a year out, and the prices only went up, up, up from there. Ended up going up about $300 per person (times the five of us!!!) I was very glad I booked early.
