dwayneb236 Posted May 10, 2011 #101 Share Posted May 10, 2011 took this cruise AS I needed a crusie that left out of Tampa, as my mom crusie director was wee jimmy. looked like a leprecharan and a munkin all rolled into one. was his own biggest fan, Hey, good job on making offensive statements about someones size. Very impressive. Your review now means nothing to me.
sharecruises Posted May 10, 2011 #102 Share Posted May 10, 2011 I just saw some of these cutbacks on Valor... worst was using the lame Marriage show as night's entertainment on the 2nd night....that used to be an afternoon show, that is a real cost cutter move No more trays in buffet on Valor...just large plates The buffet themes were cheaper too IMHO>>> Italian I and Italian II American I and American II Less staff in sight...less fun things and when they did have things they schedule them at the same time so you miss one....as the OP states just less staff, less interaction.....yes cutbacks I miss the great cover bands, 4 or 5 piece bands... I miss the semi production show (like Christopher Allen Graves? on Liberty and Marcus Allen on Valor a few years ago) The marriage show is a bore....sitting on folding chairs with the same old jokes....yawn
dtsquared Posted May 10, 2011 #103 Share Posted May 10, 2011 DW and I just returned from a 7 day sailing of the Pride. I have to say that the activities, service, and food quality has declined over the years but please tell me what business has not had to make cuts in order to remain a profitable business? At least they have not made cruising out of the reach of this "average Joe"....and for that I am Thankful! This was our 10th cruise and EVERY cruise was "different"....Some had great food, some had a great cruise director and activities, and some had better food than others.....but ALL were fabulous vacations relative to the money we spent. I do hope Carnival can someday return to a higher level of service, entertainment, and food but until then I appreciate the ability to be able to go on a week long cruise on a beautiful ship and have generally happy folks make me all my meals, clean up after me, and wake up in a different port of call everyday!!! DW and I were wondering why we did not get a comment card on this cruise as we have always done in the past??? After reading this thread....I now know why! To each his own.... but please remember that we are all in this together and have a relatively short time time enjoy all the blessings we have! It is my advice to just live in the moment and LOVE EVERY MINUTE OF IT!!!! Just my opinion....and I do understand the other side of the argument

Toast1412 Posted May 10, 2011 #105 Share Posted May 10, 2011 What if my expectations are that I would expect the same quality that I got on my previous CCL cruises???I don't believe anyone here, especially CCL veterans, are expecting Regent quality. I think in general, expectations of the typical high frequency cruiser increases with each trip. Without picking nits, nothing has really changed over the years. · Cruise entertainment has always been stereotyped as being sub-par, well, because it is. What do you expect? · The food overall really hasn’t changed much, I’d say there are more choices today than say 20 years ago. Overall it’s pretty good for being all inclusive. · Service? I can’t really think of any measurable changes in service. My bed gets made, I get a neat little towel dude, my room guy always addresses me as Mr. Toast, the maitre d is still a jag, and there’s always someone on Lido ready to fill my empty beer bucket. So then what is it? With all things within the ship remaining relatively stable it must be increased expectations. I mean really, the first time I saw the “not so newlywed game” I thought it was hysterical. Today you won’t find me within 2 decks of that nonsense. The same can be said for most of the entertainment. I probably haven’t cruised as much as many of you out here but I get tired of the same old thing and “expect” more. But there are thousands of people on each ship experiencing this stuff for the first time and enjoying it like it did the first time. My higher expectations today are fulfilled by going on new ships and not suddenly expecting cruise ship entertainment to be Broadway quality. sharecruises Posted May 10, 2011 #106 Share Posted May 10, 2011 I also find the newlywed show a bore...my problem with it is that it is now a whole night's entertainment ..the Newlywed show is the headliner show in the main theater one night that is a big cutback...and something the OP noted about the Legend

Toast1412 Posted May 10, 2011 #110 Share Posted May 10, 2011 Somebody is either delusional or doesn't cruise much on Carnival:D I’ve done my fair share on Carnival so maybe I’m missing some important reference points from the “salad days of cruising”. Please regale me with your tales of superior service and entertainment from days gone by. I still think that expectations increase and memories of past cruise experiences become exaggerated and embellished as time passes. It’s like watching a great movie for the first time. After seeing it over and over again the shine wears off and you want something better. The movie hasn’t changed but your expectations went up. I still watch some of my favorite movies over an over again, I just fast forward through the slow parts. Same thing goes for cruising. And I only get delusional after my 4th bucket of beer. steveNcindy Posted May 10, 2011 #111 Share Posted May 10, 2011 Dont worry. I am not a cultie who wlil belittle you or other such idiocy for a negative review. You don't check the "Consume Kool Aid" box at sign in either then :D How many posts like the OP's need to be posted before it's no longer a fluke???? Scientific research points to 10,478 posts until the light bulb clicks on for some. Thanks to the 2 posters who came back with their thoughts on this cruise - while not a popular opinion to most here, it is appreciated. And to all those willing to "settle" for the level of service being offered and cling to the "Best Bang for the Buck" argument, you need to travel more and explore other options - there is so much more out there. I like you:D First off entertainment... while it has never been great has changed tremendously over the years.......the 2 men and the music box on the lido deck should give you a clue:p The rock bands in the lounges......now they try to squeeze a few guys with guitars into the casino:rolleyes: They use to have a one man band in the casino and the rock bands in the lounges...... To me the food at dinner is the biggest change I have seen on my last 2 cruises.......lack of in the buffet.......and the slow service in the MDR albeit they do have less servers which is understandable but not tolerable to what we are used to in the past....... I don't watch movies more then once.........

Maybe this is where I'm missing out. Usually don't go to the MDR more than twice on a seven day. I eat too much during the day. I’ll just have to drink more and eat less during the day. There’s food in the beer, there’s no beer in the food. We leave in 31 days on the Dream so perhaps I'll take a stab at my first review paying particular attention to service and entertainment. However, you saw my bucket comment so I’ll make no claims of 100% clarity or accuracy in that review. BURP.

This is about the only kind of post I see from you over here on the Carnival boards. I'm no Carnival cheerleader....I've been on one cruise of each RCI, NCL and Carnival so I'm no expert and I have no favorites. My point is just that your posts are soooo predictable. Of course you're entitled to write whatever you want but it just happens to be the same thing every time.

Funny how I repeat myself and say the same thing over and over and YET your comprehension of what I say still sucks. When did I ever say I don't like Carnival anymore? I have a 15 day cruise on the Spirit coming up next year so I must like it enough to withstand 15 days ;) You are no expert and have no favorites...and no opinion on this subject other than my posts irritate you. I didn't say your posts irritate me...I said they're predictable. In any case, I can't speak as to how the service today compares to the service of yesteryear...I can only say that I've been on all 3 major lines, only one of each, over that past 6 or so years, and they're all basically the same with the exception of entertainment. And I can't even be a good judge of that because I didn't even see ANY entertainment on my Carnival cruise cause I was with my kids the whole time and in bed early. If you say the service is down, I believe you. But you say it over and over and over and over...oye vay.

firstcruiser2010 Posted May 10, 2011 #125 Share Posted May 10, 2011 I love to read the reviews, it keeps me on the ship from when I physically got off to when I get on again. We sailed on the Legend last September and are greatly looking forward to going again this September. As some of you have commented, I look at reviews lightly. I love to see the pics where people go and what great adventures they had. It cracks me up when people "nit pick" even to the point one critic mentioned the wallpaper curling at the corners. FRANKLY I HAVE NEVER LOOKED THAT CLOSE AT A CORNER TO SEE WHAT CONDITION THE WALLPAPER WAS! The only thing I can say is a cruise is what you make it. And believe me, we make it FUN EVERY MINUTE WE ARE ON THE LEGEND!!:)
