Maho Beach

How far away is this from the the Port? I understand there is Sunset Bar/grill there....Is that a good place to eat? How much is a taxi there.

Is there anything close to that to see or do?

Taxi from the port was $20 for 1 or 2 people and got cheaper per person with more people. So like 4 people would be $35 and 6 people would be $30, etc. Thats a one way fare so you have to pay to go back too. So it may be worth your while to book a tour that will drop you off and pick you back up if you want to do other stuff besides just watch the planes and hang on Maho beach. We didn't eat while we were there, menu prices from $10 - $18 per entree. Snacks around $8 - $9 for Chicken Tenders, Cheesesticks, etc.

 

There is another bar at the other end of the beach that appears to be attached to a hotel, but we didn't wander to that end of the beach. We spent all day at Maho Beach/Sunset Bar and had a great time.

The taxi rates have been posted here before, but basically it's 2 people = $20 (each way), 4 = $36, and 6 = $48.

 

I think that the Sunset is too expensive, so I recommend Guy's Driftwood Boat Bar, probably what's referred to as the one at the other end of the beach, but it's not associated with any hotel. They're cheaper, and I understand that they now offer a pizza that is VERY good. On my short must eat list for our next visit.

 

As to what else is nearby, do a search on this board for 'Mullet', the adjacent beach. There is also some shopping, some more formal restaurants, and a Casino.

We had a wonderful day there watching the planes come in. I can tell you that the drinks they made us were very strong! :D
