Fully Booked Cruises

My DW and I are leaving on a Gaither Alaskan Cruise on Ms Amsterdam in a couple of weeks

This charted cruise has been fully booked out for a least 2 months.

I often see in CC about upgrades etc. How often are cruises fully booked?

It depends on the itinerary.

Some itineraries like the Amsterdam's 14 day Alaskan cruises and Maasdam's Canada/New England cruises sell out very quickly -- thus little chance of an upgrade or an upsell.

In fact the July 8th Amsterdam cruise is oversold and some people have been contacted about taking another cruise.

This has also happened several times on the Canada/New England cruises.

And a few years ago it happened on one of our Veendam cruises sailing out of Tampa.

I don't know about charters, but on regular cruises just because the ship is sold out does not mean that every cabin is assigned. Guarantees are assigned in the last 3 weeks or so, and many receive upgrades. Also, some who have chosen specific cabins with the proviso that they will accept an upgrade are given them.

 

Did you choose a specific cabin, and were you asked if you would accept an upgrade, or does it work differently on a charter?

We simply chose a cabin.

 

No mention of upgrades.

Almost every HAL cruise goes out fully booked. As sail date appraoches, if all the cabins are not sold, they mark down prices until they are.
