Capt. Thore comes off much differently than the description we got of him. He's a handsome, personable man. U didn't ask specific dates but he will be on Freedom "the end of" September until "right before Christmas".

 

I went to Captain Thore's captain's corner in February in theatre, was such a nice captain, I was very surprised to hear that he's not on Oasis anymore! He's on the show mighty ships on Oasis :)

The week Capt. Thore was on RD (just last week), he didn't host a Captains table or do a Captain's corner. A lot of people were disappointed that there was no Captain's corner on the last sea day. I guess since he was just on for such a short time, he didn't feel the need to provide the full experience.

Bill Wright's reasons for going back to sea - keeping up his license mainly - he said the true reason for going back to sea was so he can spend more time with his family. Being VP of Marine Operations in Miami is a time consuming job with no long term breaks. Being Captain on the ship allows him much more family time with the 10 week on/off schedule. And with very young grandchildren, he doesn't want to lose all that time by living full time in Florida.

 

Ten weeks is a long time to be away from one's family. But it's not as long as a life time away. He seemed quite excited about his return to family life in Norway. He's quite the entertaining Captain, too. I always thought Radiance of the Seas had the best Captains. It still does. :)

yes, I'm figuring his rotation ends the first week of November. Allure does 11 week rotations (Faevelen prefers this).

Capt Stig was scheduled to leave JW today. Didn't see him because disembarkation was running late and I was worried about catching my flight home.

 

He was somewhat invisible on the 8/19 Baltics cruise, but he was very visible and communicative on the crossing with the problems we encountered.

 

First, we had the mishap entering the Faroe Islands, where both the ship and a security officer were injured. The crew member was first hospitalized in Klasvik, then flown to Denmark, and has since gone home. The ship was repaired in Iceland.

 

Then we had to skip St Johns NFLD and change course to avoid the storm(s).

 

Finally, we then changed course again, headed north towards Halifax instead of continuing almost due west we were doing, and another crew member was med-evac'ed yesterday.

 

It took less than 7 minutes from the time the rescue boat came alongside until they left with the crew member. Before and after that we were going at maximum speed - over 23 knots.

 

I'm sure Capt Stig is very happy to be on vacation now!

If Stig Nilsen has moved over to Azamara as reported (and I have had that confirmed by more than one source) I wonder who will replace him in the rotation with Captain James?
