Even if you could do this would think you would have to fly to the next port.

The OP wants to take the first half of the cruise, get off at the DR stop, stay for a land vaca and then hope back on the cruise at DR to the debark port...

Sorry OP not sure about this but interested to see if it could happen.

That would mean getting off the ship at DR and waiting a week or more for the ship to come back and finishing the cruise that way.

Even if the cruise line would allow it gotta be rather expensive as you are paying for two cruises.

The cruise lines do allow you to do a partial cruise. Some restrictions do apply. For example, when cruising from a US port, you must be debarking at a foreign port, or at least visit a foreign port before returning to a US port.

Debarking in a port in the D.R. would fill this requirement.

However, keep in mind that you will be charged for the entire cruise even if you are on the ship for a few days. In summary, you will be paying for 2 full cruises (one to get there, one to return).

My PVP told me that he had a client who lives in Canada who has family in the Bahamas. She hated flying, so she would drive her car from Canada to Port Canaveral, book the Sensation, get off in Nassau, spend a few weeks, and then book a return cruise, board in Nassau and do it all over going home.

We met a lady and her young son on a NYC to Bermuda cruise. She lived in Bermuda got on a ship in Bermuda (NCL) and spent a week in NYC shopping and then returned back by ship. She had to pay for two cruises but with the cost and limited clothing etc supplies in Bermuda she said it was cheaper.
