Free Cruise

After our Quest 53 day cruise in Jan / Feb next year will have 150+ days cruising with Seabourn which entitles us to a free weeks cruise.

Anyone know if there are any limitations or restrictions on where and when the cruise can be taken and also is the suite category the same as the one we would normally have booked?

No limitations - same category.

Good prospects!

Yes, once the cruise during which you surpass the 150 days is concluded, you should ask your TA to get Seabourn to confirm your days with the Seabourn Club. The club will confirm what category you usually pay for and thereby what you can get for your free cruise. Then you can book your cruise for a future date. If the cruise you want is longer than one week you can also ask what the cost for the cruise would be less your free week. And if this is what you have in mind then do book an open reservation on board for the 5% off.

I am a bit risk averse and so I would get this process underway as soon as you leave your world cruise. If there is any chance Seabourn will change this benefit in 2012 or later (and I don't have reason to think they will), I would want to book this pronto.

I look forward to seeing you on the world cruise!

When you are onboard, the Cruise Specialist will know how many days you have sailed and when you will reach the total necessary to earn the 'loyalty' cruise. they can also give you a list of all your cruises with dates and lenght. I found that interesting since I never kept that kind of record. I will have earned my second cruise by Christmas and have already decided how to enjoy it: the Pride from Dover to Lisbon and then Lisbon to Barcelona will be my 'bonus'. And I booked it onboard in September.

Meant to explain that I booked the cruise where i will use my bonus in advance because the first time I opted for an Adriatric cruise which was already booked in the category I usually sail, so I had to pay an overage charge for that suite, the difference between the two. It won't matter how it's handled until much later, so if you know what you want, book early, then you can apply the credit.

If you don't have the 5% discount available now, that might be the best idea. I do think it is possible to book now to reserve a spot and then apply the discount when onboard. Perhaps someone else will know that answer. However, if you have your eyes on a very popular itinerary, might be wise to book now. I always disembark with one or two certificates for 5% off future bookings. Like insurance.

We just enquired whilst onboard the Spirit as to whether we could retrospectively apply a 5% discount to an already booked cruise (for next September) if we paid our future cruise deposit. We were informed that we could do this if we cancelled the cruise then re-booked it. After contacting our TA to arrange this it transpired that the cancellation charges would amount to double the saving!

Evidently Seabourn used to allow the 5% to be applied retrospectively, but not any more.

The following is the Cancellation Policy for cruises booked directly thru Seabourn or a TA in the USA.

Does someone have the details of the cancellation penalties for cruises booked thru non-USA channels ? (ie. UK)

If a cancellation occurs, the following cancellation fees will be assessed:

Cruises of 31-days or less:

Days Prior to Departure Cancellation Fee

90-46 days 25% of full fare

45-31 days 50% of full fare

30 days or less, or non-appearance 100% of full fare

Cruises of 32-days or more:

Days Prior to Departure Cancellation Fee

120-91 days 25% of full fare

90-76 days 50% of full fare

75 days or less, or non-appearance 100% of full fare

Here is what is in the UK Brochures from Seabourn.

Cruises of 59 days or less.

From the date of booking until 57 days Deposit

56 to 42 days 45%

41 to 16 days 75%

15 to 6 days 90%

Less than 6 days before departure

or failure to embark 100%

For cruises 60 days or more

The cancellation charges are different.

>"Seabourn won't allow you to book your FREE cruise, unless you have actually completed 140 days for one week or 250 days for two weeks....

So you can look for your free cruise already and put it on your wish list, but no booking yet!"

At least for me, in the US, I booked my cruise one week of which will be free. I put down a deposit and the discounted fare won't need to be paid until 90 days before sailing. So far, Seabourn doesn't realize that one week will be a credit, but I am sure that I have a spot.
