Buy liquor on boat's duty free shop or at port

Use the first night to scope prices on the ship (and make sure to note sizes), then go ashore and check some of the duty free or local shops. In my experience, JD and other American whiskeys do not have that great of of a duty-free markdown anywhere. I'm not sure what your local pricing is, but I can get 750 ml of JD for about $18-20 locally ... while a little cheaper on the ship, packing and flying it home is not worth it for me, though your experience will of course be different.
