How can they tell the difference between mouthwash and vodka thru the X-Ray machine?

My guess is that they flag some bags and when checking if it is not sealed, they smell it. Who knows how much stuff they were trying to get on board. I mean, if there are several large bottles of "mouthwash" and "shampoo" in a suitcase, maybe they flag it as being suspicious.

I don't know that they would bother with smaller amounts.

Got ours taken from checked luggage on the Splendor - not worth trying anymore - my only problem with Bon Voyage was:

a. the bottle of Veuve Cliquot that was sent to our room by one of my clients for our sailaway was spoiled.

b. they delivered Smirnoff instead of KetelOne - HUGE difference, thank you very much - and then it took forever for the exchange.

Just curious, what sizes? How were they packed. I was thinking of bringing a couple in a few weeks.

Last weekend on the Inspiration four of us had wine in our checked bags and it all came through. One girl had tequila in a juice bottle in her checked luggage and it came through. One girl had a bottle of vodka (original container) in her checked luggage and it was taken.

I think we could pretty easily summarize this thread:

Do:

Use rum-runners or other plastic bottles

Put your contraband in your checked luggage, not your carry on

Stack your stash behind/among other toiletries/liquids

Don't:

Use the original alcohol containers

Smuggle in huge volumes

Get upset if you get caught... you're still on vacation!

  • 4 months later...

at the cost of what they charge for drinks... They should come with a stripper... yes I have smuggled before and I also purchased during the same trip... no one lost money on me.... How much do you tip whatif? because my wait crew was well taken care of for taking care of me..they got the money I saved in alcohol vs the industry.
