Nothing like procrastination. I'm leaving Monday, Nov. 28th at 7pm!

Dunedin - I thought the cadbury chocolate tour looked interesting. It only cost $7.50 to take. Any way to take public transportation there? If not rent a car? It is only 24 min away. Should we make reservations ahead of time? How do you get to the steepest street? walk? Bus?

Wellington -Is it posible to take the public transportation to the cable car? Should we make reservations for the cable car? I think the botaniic gardens is close by. Should we take the walking tour? Where is the best place for shopping?

Tauranga - You can see the glow worms here as well as bay of island. Does it matter where?

Hells gate looked interesting. Any way to use public transportation? Would it better to take a tour or rent a car? Can you take the geothermal reserve walk here?

Bay of Island - anyway to do the glow worms on our own here?

Auckland - Our plane doesn't leave until late but I bet the cruise lines wants to take us to the airport right away. Any idea the best way to get to the airport? Cost of a taxi? I wanted to go to ranigitoro island. Can we get there from the ship dock there?

Thanks for your help.

There is a shuttle from Port Chalmers into Dunedin - $15 NZD return. It goes right into the city centre, easy to walk to Cadbury Chocolate to do a tour. You can rent a car at the wharf, and in fact you may be able to join private/non-cruise ship tours at the port where operators have spots to fill.

Again I understand a shuttle runs from the Wharf into the city centre, the cable car is an easy walk - no booking required as it is just part of the public transport system. And a walk to the Botanic Gardens, which are lovely. Don't for get the Te Papa Museum - it is for the most part free and well worth the visit.

Tauranga - You can see the glow worms here as well as bay of island. Does it matter where?

Glow worms - that is a far distance away. Hells Gate, that is just our of Rotorua, so if you are confident driving get a rental car for the day. It is a geothermal area, not a commercialised as some. We went there last year with a group and it was most enjoyable - allow an hour there. From there, there is heaps to do in Rotorua. I can recommend Riteprice rentals which we used last year.

Bay of Island - anyway to do the glow worms on our own here?

Sorry not sure about this area for glow worms.

Have you booked a transfer? If not there is the option of a shuttle bus, public airport bus transfer or taxi from the city. Ask at the I-Site building on Princes Wharf. You can store luggage there 9 -5 daily. They can tell you about getting to Rangitoto Island. http://www.fullers.co.nz/tickets-fares/timetables/rangitoto-island.php

Thanks for your help.

Hope this all helps

In Dunedin, take a shuttle into town. You can walk all around the downtown area and also visit the Cadbury store/factory and you can purchase tickets right there for their tour.

See if the cruise line offers an excursion of Auckland which they normally do for those with late flights.

Enjoy!

Rangitoto Island.

You really need a full day to experience this volcanic cone. You should also be aware that there is nothing there ie shops, cafes etc.

Heres a link to the timetables.

Fullers operate most of the Ferry services in Aucklad

http://www.fullers.co.nz/destinations-tours/rangitoto-island.php

Heres some info , to prepare for your visit to the Island. Pests have beeen eradicated after many years work ,and nature is flouishing, as it should.:)

The ferries must adhere to the following or they lose their licence to land.

Important biosecurity information

Our vessel(s)/Fullers is/are licensed by DOC and the Auckland Council to visit islands in the Hauraki Gulf. We run a biosecurity system (on (all) our vessels) which meets the criteria to hold a ‘Pest-free Warrant’ for the Hauraki Gulf.

What you need to do to prepare for your trip to pest-free Rangitoto island:

Please check your bags for stowaways: mice, rats, Argentine ants and rainbow skinks.

Ensure your footwear, clothing and bags are clean and free of soil and seeds.

Your lunch must be packed in a rodent-proof container eg. hard plastic.

No open bags or boxes – everything you bring must be sealed or zipped closed.
