Mini-mini Review of the Triumph Nov. 26 cruise (NO WHINING!)

I was on the 5-day Triumph out of Galveston Nov. 26 and wanted to do a short review for anyone interested. It will be short but sweet! And sorry—there is nothing here of interest to Carnival bashers. :)

My younger and older sister (both newbies) cruised with me. We are all in our 50s. One sister and I drove from northcentral Oklahoma to Houston and picked up the other sister at Bush Airport. We stayed at the Hampton Inn right near the airport and drove to Galveston the next day.

Embarkation was a breeze except that one of my sisters packed heavily, despite my pleas not to. We arrived at the port about 10:45 and were easily on board within an hour. We headed to the Lido deck and spent an hour or so at the bar enjoying a few adult beverages.

The weather was quite cool…and we bought sweatshirts in the gift shop soon after leaving port. The weather throughout the trip was cool and cloudy, with choppy seas the first few days. In fact, we missed Progresso because the port was closed and overnighted in Cozumel instead. It was fun going ashore there at night, and the crew was ecstatic because many of them went ashore, too. The weather didn’t matter one bit to us—we had an absolute blast!

We spent our day in Cozumel at Nachi Cocom. There weren’t many folks there, so service was exceptional. The three of us each got a massage there and loved it. We also shopped a bit before returning to the ship to watch the pier runners.

The food on board was excellent! The only thing we didn’t like was a corn muffin…if that tells you anything. And trust me, we ate LOTS of everything! One of the highlights of our trip was the Chef’s Table. At $75 each, I was reluctant to do it but I’m so glad we did! We ordered coffee from room service every morning, and we ordered sandwiches or something one other time.

One of my sisters waited until the last day at sea to try the slide. I’d told her how much fun it was on the other ships I’d been on, and it turned out to be one of her favorite parts of the cruise! It was cold and windy (just an hour or so before dark), but she climbed those stairs and slid down over and over and over.

Our room steward was exceptional, even though we only saw him twice. Having someone clean up after me is part of what makes cruising such a treat. We tipped him nicely near the end of our cruise. The only issue with our cabin was a smell in the bathroom that is best described as cat urine. It wasn’t a big deal for us. In fact, we joked about half-way through the cruise, “Just think, in a few days some other people will be in here wondering whose cat peed!”

I wish I could say we saw some shows, but, well, we spent a lot of time in the casino. As is usual for me based on past cruises, I did best the last two nights. It helped that I earned the Drinks on Us card the third day… We caught some of the shows on TV and the cruise director (Felipe?) was hilarious! Wish we’d gone to some shows and we had good intentions, but… :D

Fellow cruisers were gracious and very decked out on formal night. A few times during the cruise, we saw someone wearing a bathrobe in the South Beach part of the Lido and once in the casino, which was odd. Did it ruin my cruise? Nope!

Debarkation was quick and easy…again, except for the sister with too much luggage.

All in all, this was a GREAT cruise, and I’d go again in a heartbeat!

I should also add that one of my sisters paid for quite a few services in the spa and was extremely pleased. She didn't buy products...nor did she feel pressured to do so. But she enjoyed the hair, nail, and massage services. :)

Thanks..want to try these ships...Triumph or Destiny, on a good deal they seem to often have..where was your cabin?

We were in 8356, just one deck down from the Lido deck. It was a balcony cabin...8D I think. Here are a few of the many pictures we took...

Embarkation day was cool and cloudy.

Wish I could help you, but I don't know. One of my sisters kept the Fun Times and she is out of town for a few days. I'm betting YES and YES...maybe someone else knows?
