Tipping Criteria?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if anyone could tell me the amounts per person that Royal Caribbean set out for us. (The piece of paper they leave in the room near the end of the cruise stating how much per person per day.)

Thanks! :)

Breakdown is as follows. This is only their recommended guidelines....

$5.00pp per day for Housekeeping Staff ($7.25 if in a GS or above)

$3.75pp per day for Waiter

$2.15pp per day for Assistant Waiter

$0.75pp per day for Head Waiter

$11.65pp per day ($13.90pp per day if booked in a GS or above)

In all of our years of cruising on RCI, we have never received an envelope for the Maitre 'd.

Maybe it was just the other lines that included them. But I do remember thinking "What did this guy do for me?" when I saw it.

I also remember the cruise director, during the debarkation talk, discussing tips and saying "If you have not yet seen the Matre D', I guarantee you will meet him tonight at dinner." Actually making a joke about the fact there was a Matre D' tip envelope.

I think that the people who say that are confusing the Maitre'D with the headwaiters who wear maroon jackets and oversee a section of the main dining room. RCI has never, to my knowledge, ever included the Maitre'D in the list of dining room staff for whom tips are suggested. If you need to change your table or dining time, you may need to see the Maitre'D and a gratuity at that point may help your chances that your request will be granted.:)
