mn2ga Posted January 10, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 10, 2012 I would like to get a recommendation for a pre-cruise hotel in Istanbul in the historic area. We want a very good hotel but not necessarily a five star. Thank you for any help.
Rare cruisemom42 Posted January 10, 2012 #2 Share Posted January 10, 2012 I highly recommend the Sirkeci Konak. Here's a good thread from the Mediterranean Ports of Call board with quite a bit of discussion about the hotel including several glowing reports: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1457598
Krazy Kruizers Posted January 10, 2012 #3 Share Posted January 10, 2012 We stayed at the Four Seasons -- within walking distance of the mosques.
robbie21 Posted January 11, 2012 #4 Share Posted January 11, 2012 Go to tripadvisor.com and type in Istanbul hotels in the search box. You'll have more information than you can handle. Venere.com is also good. Rick Steves Istanbul guidebook is pretty well balanced for the old town. We stayed at the Nena Hotel.Definitlely not a 5 star experience. It was small but right in the heart of things. We could see the Blue Mosque from our window. Good breakfast. Staff was very nice. We booked direct for three nights by e-mail and they had a car pick us up at the airport. There are lots of similar small hotels. Check the reviews for what you are most concerned about. Rare mj_holiday Posted January 11, 2012 #5 Share Posted January 11, 2012 We were in Turkey 2 years ago on a land vacation and stayed in Mevlana Hotel. This hotel is not close to the cruise terminals but is very close to the Blue Mosque and many attractions. If you have any problems with stairs check to make sure the hotel you are looking at has an elevator. This one does, but its sister hotel (closer in the old town) did not. I felt the area very safe for walking, beautiful views from the breakfast room and the staff very helpful.
