Bath from Southampton is very popular with cruisers. :)

Cheap & simple by train

http://ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/service/planjourney/search

Start is Southampton central, destination is Bath Spa.

Timetable is good for about 3 months out, but unlikely to change so choose a random date but same day-of-the-week.

Direct trains roughly every half-hour, journey time about 90 mins, fares from about £10 pp.

Taxi from ship to rail station about £5 to £7.

If you want to break your journey & visit Salisbury / Stonehenge, get off the train at Salisbury, store your luggage at the pub by the station forecourt (nominal charge), take the Stonehenge ho-ho from the station.

Round-trip about 60 mins, £11 pp. Most folk stay at Stonehenge 60 - 90 mins. Get off in Salisbury city centre - attractive & laid-back historic city with magnificent cathedral - then return to station, collect luggage, continue by train. You will need separate tickets for the two journeys.

Alternatively by private transfer: 60 miles, 90 mins, £100+.

Salisbury is en-route & Stonehenge involves a deviation of only about 5 miles in total, so visiting either/both shouuld cost little more than the driver's waiting time.

and

are most frequently used by cc'ers.

Or rent a car. Europcar & National (shared depot) and Hertz are immediately behind your cruise terminal, about a 10 min walk.

The route is simple although a ittle slow, & again you have the option of stopping off at Salisbury and/or Stonehenge. Or other places, such as the New Forest or Lacock.

Hotels in Bath are a little more expensive than most places in the UK, sorry can't help with choice

Bath is well worth a full day, easy on foot. Lots to explore in the countryside around - limited options by train or coach or seat-on-coach day-tours, more flexible with a rented car.

If you don't rent a car, Bath to Heathrow is simplest by coach, http://www.nationalexpress.com/coach/index.cfm

To other destinations, incl central London, train is probably your best bet.
