Randy in Arlington Posted April 21, 2005 #1 Share Posted April 21, 2005 We're considering a Silversea cruise for next winter, having decided that the mass-market lines weren't really a good fit for us. I broke into cruising 15 years ago first on WindStar and then on Renaissance (when they only had the orignal, small ships) and have always preferred small ship settings. Anyway, I've been lurking on the Silversea, Seabourn, and Crystal chats and I saw today on the Crystal boards a discussion of "theme" nights on Crystal cruises. I believe they were talking about their "50s night" or something and bringing along poodle skirts and the like. Well to each his own, of course, and I'm glad the chatters were all enthusiastic about such things, but I was frankly astonished. I assumed things like toga parties and country and western night, etc., were more on the "party" cruise lines, not on six-star lines. Please tell me that Silversea does NOT do things like this! I love dusting off the dinner jacket as often as possible, but I would not want also to be asked to dress like Johnny Cash or Julius Caesar. And, trust me, YOU don't want to see me dressed like Julius Caesar, either!
avalon1025 Posted April 21, 2005 #2 Share Posted April 21, 2005 You will be safe on Silversea, neer saw a theme night on any of my sailings except for possibly a dinner menu theme (ie: Italian Night). Going on my first Crystal cruise this summer, I hate those themed nights as well. I'll let you know how it goes.
PaulaJK Posted May 10, 2005 #3 Share Posted May 10, 2005 Don't worry about Crystal's 50's Night...you are merely 'invited' to dress from the 50's and only a small percentage [perhaps under 10%] do. It's not at all like those country nights or masquerade balls of the past or mass market lines. I saw a note from someone addressing medieval night, but I've never read encouragment to dress for that nor seen anyone dress for that. Your dinner jacket will be very well received, perhaps more so than on some other luxury lines which encourage elegant casual.
LOGHL Posted May 10, 2005 #4 Share Posted May 10, 2005 theme nights on Silversea refer to the country that the recipes favor on a particular evening.
