Livorno - on your own coach transfer or RomeinLimo?

Hi there

We've joined the IOTS Roll Call for our 25 August Italian Med cruise, and a few of us were wondering whether to get the simple coach drop off in Florence via RCI - or to plump for a RomeinLimo driver excursion or even a private transfer?

Does anyone know whether these coaches leave promptly, ie. will we be wasting a lot of time waiting for the coach to leave the port and saunter up to Florence?!

A few of us have done Pisa before, and are keen to spend time in a museum or two perhaps when we get to Florence, or perhaps book a 3-hour walking tour.

RomeinLimo has suggested we could combine Florence and Lucca - has anyone done this and was it too rushed?

Comments welcome, thanks a lot!

a few things to consider

how much is the coach transfer per person as opposed to the per person cost with Rome in limo for a fully escorted tour

how much use would you make of a guide in Florence or would you prefer to wander round on your own

discount any worries about whether you will get back to the ship on time with a non ships tour-Rome in limo have been well reviewed and it's their business to make sure you get back in time

the coaches will hold 40-50 people and will probably have a toilet stop on the way to Florence. How lucky do you feel that you will have everyone obeying time to get back to the coach and not be waiting for latecomers?

Seeing both Lucca and Florence is achievable but it all depends on how much time you want to dedicate to touring museums?

sorry to answer your questions with questions but everyone has different priorities and it all depends on what you want for your money

my personal choice is that would get a group of 6-8 people together and go with a private tour company-in fact that's what we're doing in July-Pisa and Florence in our case

Thanks for the replies, you've supported my view that I should explore the private tour route a bit further to make the maximum use of our time there.

If anyone has done Lucca and Florence in a day that would be good to know?
