Hi,

What do you think is the best and most reasonable way to go from Victoria station to Southhampton..

Thanks

Francine

I would post this on British Isles-western europe forumn, those posters know a lot about Britain. Remember a lot of posters on here are from the US, Ausie etc.

There is a direct train every hour from London Victoria to Southampton. There are 16 intermediate stops, so it is quite slow compared to mainline trains: about two hours and 20 minutes. It is essentially a commuter train, so there is little space for luggage. From my experience, if travelling outside of peak periods there should be empty seats available for luggage. If purchased in advance, fares can be as low as ₤10 or even ₤7.50. There is a small first-class area on these trains. If you are not travelling with a Britrail Pass or some such discount it is very expensive. The first-class seating on these commuter trains is the same as in standard class, but there will normally be fewer passengers. If this train equipment has changed since my last trip, I hope someone will post that information.

If it were me...

A taxi to Waterloo Station and then the regular fast train to Southampton. Simples.

Book as far in advance as possible (say 60-90 days) to get a cheap train ticket.

If there are several in your party and/or lots of luggage, look at private limo & driver hire, could be cheaper.

Very best wishes

Not sure about that. Some of you over the pond seem to have a much better knowledge of the area than I do...I live in Surrey, about 45 mins from Southampton.:)

Waterloo departure is the quickest journey to SOU. A 12 min Underground journey from Victoria. I think it's about £35ish for a 90min journey.

The weekday 1030 from Victoria is £5 but takes 2 1/2 hrs.

Have a look here

http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/

If you search for London it brings back all mainline station options.

Regards.

Mr H.
