Chair Hoggers on Cruise Ships .

At most truly fine resorts, there are pool attendants that when you arrive at the pool area ask if you want a chair in the sun or shade, near the pool or in a quieter area, and escort you there. That chair is then yours for as long as you choose to use it.

yes, and where we go on the Mediterranean, you tip the pool attendant after he shows you to a chair, gets you a mattress for the chair and sets up an umbrella.

and then the chair is yours for the day - whether you go for a dip in the pool/sea or head off for a two hour lunch. the chair will still be yours when you get back.

we get up at the crack of dawn to get the best chairs - everyone else is welcome to do the same.

However, i don't bother with the chairs near the pool on the ship.

I'm not interested in being in any area that's overrun with people (every square inch filled with people).

That's the reason we'll be in concierge. i'm hoping the concierge sun deck will be a bit quieter. :)

I remember (I am giving away my age) back when you had to reserve a chair - and it was yours for the cruise. There was a worker who took care of you. If you wanted a drink, he would bring it. If you wanted an extra towel, he would take care of that too. He worked for your tips. Of course, ships were much smaller - and more expencive. But ahh - the memory of such great service.

Chair Hogging goes on everywhere. It is one of the evils of life that nothing will ever change.

We usually just deal with it when we go on trips. We may get a little frustrated if there is no where to sit, because everyone has claimed chairs, but as long as there is somewhere to sit, we are fine. While we will just here soon be sailing our first cruise, we have stayed in numerous resorts and never had an issue with all chairs being gone.

I am on vacation, so there is no need for me to move anyone's stuff and put myself in any situation where i may create an altercation between myself and someone else, despite who is right. I am there to enjoy my vacation, and if it means that i have to sit myself in a less desirable spot, so be it. I can always go do something else if i do not like it. Or get up a little earlier the next day.

What's next, clearing tables of people who take too long to eat at the buffet? :P

no, but if you don't watch over your stuff in the dryers, you'll come back and find it on the floor.

one of the reasons i never leave the laundry room while my laundry is in the washers/dryers

oh wait - i just remembered what happened to us in WDW...

we were sitting at a table eating - all 6 of us - when all of a sudden a woman came up and started throwing our stuff out - we weren't done eating yet so we stopped her...

so she sat down at the table with us (a table that exactly fit the number of people we were) and just stared at us as we ate.

naturally, we ate much faster than we would have and got up...

as we began to clear away our stuff, her huge family sat down in our chairs..

while we were still clearing..

i'll add that they were French. French French - from France.

we laughed about it for the rest of the trip, but i have to say that at the time it was very unsettling.

French are crazy about eating , so they are table hogs and Germans are crazy about lounging, so they are chair hogs :D:D:D

Few years ago, a British Tourist sued a resort in Ibiza, because his family could not get any loungers for the whole weekend because the German tourists filling the resort, grabbed all the loungers in the resort and hogged it for the whole weekend. This is a true story, I am not making it up !!:p

we don't live in the states - we live 10 minutes from the Mediterranean..

when my family visits from the states, we spend time with them by the pool (overlooking the sea)..

every august the place is overrun with Brits and French.

Both groups staking their claims on the chairs...

invariably a war breaks out - slowly at first - looks of disgust, followed by comments, and culminating in top of the lungs screaming.

we just laugh - it's a way to pass the time while sitting by the sea all day long...watching world war 3 between the brits and french. Very amusing.

to say we were shocked would be the understatement of the century.

we didn't know what to do. We thought she was crazy.

We didn't notice her family until they came to sit down, so we just thought she was a nutcase. As i said, it was terribly unsettling.

Then once we figured it out, we were stunned by what she'd done!!

but she succeeded in scaring us away, that's for sure.

As my title says - Wow, the rudness of people amazes me! I guess there are alot of people in this world that care only about themselves with absolutely no regard for others! Have some class, grace and tact people!

There is no way I would remove anyone's belongings from a chair. If there is just a towel, that is one thing, but if there is any more than a towel on the chair (personal items) it is obviously occupied. If it is just a towel, I would keep an eye on the chair, and if say 30 min. has passed, MAYBE I would remove the towel and use the chair. When we are on vacation, we don't get caught up in the chair game.....just not our thing. If it was important for me to have a chair, then I would get to the chair early and occupy it. I see no reason to have to 'watch' my chair while I go to the bathroom or grab a drink or take a dip in the pool - c'mon people, have some consideration! Sounds like there are some bullies out there! Also, if we were to go eat at the buffet for example, we would remove our stuff and take it with us, as we would obviously be gone for an hour or so. This should be practiced by everyone. It all comes down to consideration for others. Treat others like you would like to be treated :)

my guess is it happens everywhere Brits and French meet up, but this is in Israel, where we live.

The hotels tend to be overrun in august by the French (mental note, good time to go to france - in august, when they've all left) and to some extent by the British as well.

Year round the hotels are full of Russians, but August is French month.
