Is Carnival really adding the fuel surcharge?

I would suspect we are already paying for increased fuel costs by way of increased cruise fares,

and have been for awhile. As far as a separate surcharge, doubt that happens.

In fact one wonders why they still include that wording in the contract!

My guess is that, in case of an oil shock

(price rocketing up $30/bbl overnight because Obama decided to 'do' Iran :D )

they could recoup some of the shock, even though they buy fuel via Futures contracts, prob. some years ahead?

.

I've never had them add it in 12 cruises, nor have I ever heard of them adding it to anyone I know that cruises with Carnival... But like they say... there's a first time for everything...

Well now you know someone who had this happen to....Back about 4 or 5 years ago, when they first started this due to the price of fuel, we had them add it about a month before we sailed. It was really no big deal, our 7 night cruise was such a deal at $399 pp (inside). They did this for a few months before they lifted it. In fact, all the cruise lines did it for those few months. After that, I have noticed cruise prices never go quite as low as they once did.
