Galveston fog in October/November?

I have heard of ships being delayed getting back to Galveston due to fog. Will I have this problem in November? Most people that were telling me this traveled in the winter months.

Thanks!

I live down here close to Galveston Island. Most of our foggy nights/mornings are in January and February which is really considered our "winter" down here.

When the water and the atmosphere in the same location.........

are at different temperatures

fog can occur!

Fog can occur anywhere

on the west coast, gulf coast, southeast coast or the northeast coast.

Cold fronts begin in November coming across the US

from the northwest and/or from the north.

It’s all relative to where these cold fronts end up with the jet streams.

The odds are probably more against you

getting to/from your cruise ports and home,

than being held up by fog in the US.

This is with all the possible

mother nature and transportation complications.

FOG OCCURS IN ALL PORTS NOT JUST GALVESTON

BECAUSE ALL PORTS ARE ON THE WATER !!!

Thanks for the responses. I understand we can not control weather but specifically I keep hearing of fog problems in Galveston. I am just thinking about flight times for the way home. We are coming in a day ahead so that way we are not rushing from airport to the ship.

We live on the island and second the response.

But remember, weather occurs everywhere and no can control it.

Yes indeed it does! We have taken a January/Feb or March cruise for the last 4 to 5 years and we've never had issues. You can have fog out of Florida also! My DD lives in Jacksonville, FL and they get fog all the time!

We've sailed out of galveston 5 times...2 in Feb and 3 in Early Dec...and only had fog issues once...so I guess the odds are with us so far. The one time we had fog was in December 2009, and it was horrible that day...We werent even allowed to board untill 3 pm, and were late getting away. But that didnt stop us from having a fabulous cruise..as always. I'm sure it really messed up travel plans of those poor folks that were debarking. We love sailing out of Galveston, and we always drive down from Missouri.. so we really dont worry!!:)

Living down here on the coast in Texas all my life....my experience is we have the most fog in January, Feburary and March....of course we don't even get cold weather until those months normally...but there is always that possibility in November or December too, but I don't cruise in the first 3 months of the year from Galveston knowing fog is more prevalent during those months down here....

Nothing wrong with your observation and conclusion!!!

I respect your decision!

I agree fog is more prevalent in winter months!

In defense of Galveston!!!!!!!!!

However.... my observation

relative to all ports in US would be:

In the winter months of the year

fog is more prevalent everywhere (including down here)

because of the cold and/or cool fronts moving accross the US

that can affect all ports!

And probably most mother nature and transportation

interruptive complications

occur in those months also!

Also:

A possible change in Galveston policy:

Can say that I read about 2 ships on same foggy day

in last couple of months coming into Galveston....

did get into port in the fog!

Coast Guard, Pilots Association and Cruise lines together may have had a change in policy!

The odds are probably more against a cruiser (not you, you live close)

getting to/from and between cruise ports and home

during those months,

than being held up by fog in the US.

This considering all the possible

mother nature and transportation interruptive complications.

FOG CAN OCCUR IN ALL PORTS

NOT JUST GALVESTON

BECAUSE ALL PORTS

ARE ON THE WATER !!!

AND WE HAVE MOTHER NATURE AND WINTER MONTHS

Thank you! We are traveling with our 2 small kids so dragging our own luggage off while trying to hold their hands isn't possible.
