Next to it on Deck 3... the Library which is also the Internet Cafe....

And between them is a long hall way that leads around the bow and back to the starboard side... is the Jungle. It's filled with tables and round windows that you can sit in and read and just enjoy!

And next to the Library... The SPIRIT has a permanent Chapel!!! It's quite lovely... With windows that bring in outside light and views and back lit (with light bulbs) stained glass on interior walls...

And out to the Serenity Deck to sit and eat...

I love the mattress swing. I relaxed here after eating. You can check out a towel of blanket and just relax!!!! The clam chairs... or whatever they're called are wonderful too!!! They just surround you!!!

Out of curiosity, since you were on the Port side, on this itinerary with the Day at Sea on the first full day, heading north, do you get any kind of view? Or would it be better to be on the Starboard side? Just trying to pick a side before booking.

Relaxing, then Muster, then sailaway... We were delayed by about an hour and didn't sail away until we were already at dinner... after 5:30PM, early dining time. I attened Muster in the bar on Deck 3. The handicapped Muster. I needed to sit, and there were no questions asked why!

After dinner... they served a wonderful birthday cake! THANK YOU Roy!!! It served 10 of us!!

EXCELLENT!!!

Now it's time to sit on the balcony and watch the shore go by! I'm looking for the light house we went to... The Port Wilson Lighthouse, and capture it from this side... it's a windy, cool, almost cold night (or so I thought... but I would learn COLD soon!!)

Nope, this is not it...

Here it is, let's get a bit closer...

Lambie, loving it. I may just have to buy a new camera, even though the one I have, isn't even a yr old yet. Skagway is where I bought my jacket, even though I didn't need it. We had taken several coats with us, but, I loved it. Wished I have bought a couple extras for Christmas presents. Can't wait until you get to the cruise part. I so want to see a picture of the new "Lambster". Your pictures are simply amazing, so clear and post card worthy.

It really is a fun and easy camera and it was in the $200s... So affordable... but still full of features!! I added a tripod and memory card and tripod...

Thank you I am loving this , also the packing advice is great , off to hunt out a hoodie for June 12th.

YES!!! Take a zipper hoodie or pullover or BOTH!!! THANK YOU!!! Ask away... Any questions you can think of!!

I am thinking of taking my Grandsons bear on our trip so he can have pictures he will enjoy when I get back. Does the gift shop sell and bear clothes , I think they have a Build A Bear thing on some ships , perhaps I could get Nautical clothes.

Yes I am a crazy Grandma , and loving every moment of it.

Take the bear!!! YES!!! The outfits are from the Build a Bear kind of thing!! Not at the gift shop, but at certain times, around on the decks. You'll see it in the FUN Times! There's a CARNIVAL chef, formal out fit, and the two I have for my lambs... Photos to come!! PLUS, lots of other type outfits!!!!

Thank you for enjoying this... I'm loving getting it all in order!!! And reliving the cruise!!!

I can offer a suggestion on a great camera ... this one does HD movies as well as has auto and manual focus modes and rapid photo taking. I got it for Christmas and LOVE it.

Fujifilm 16MP 30x Optical Zoom Digital Camera HD movie

It won't fit in a pocket, but isn't too heavy and is easy to pack. Has a built in flash too. One of the things I really like about it is that it has a view finder and a viewing screen. No more worries about glare on the screen and not being able to see what you are taking a photo of. Also the viewing screen is adjustable so I can hole the camera up above and still see what I am taking the photo of. The view finder is a MUST HAVE item for me and so few cameras have them now.

Even my husband who has a high end camera with separate lens agrees that this camera is going to Alaska with us instead of taking his and all the lenses. My camera's zoom is actually better than the zoom on his camera.

You are SO RIGHT!!! I NEEDED to use the view finder screen many times, because of the glare and also since I wear glasses and can focus easier there!!!

Really enjoying your review. Hopefully you found the ship in good condition, we tried not to leave but we had too! Seeing your photos of Seattle makes me wish we stayed more than 1 night.

Happy Belated Birthday, looking forward to more of your review.

THANK YOU!!! I had a GREAT birthday!!! I'm so glad we spent time in Seattle. I could have spent a few more days and still enjoyed myself!!!

Waiting for you next posting.

Suggestion for camera: Canon Rebel EOS. I have the T1I but now the latest is T3I. Manual and automatic features. I also have a Canon Powershot but hated the fact that I could not get all those action shots. Now I can't stand to use my point and shoot.

My daughter has the new Canon Rebel and LOVES IT!!! It was about $150 more than mine, and I'm happy with what I got for the value!!! I also have the original Canon Rebel, that take interchangable lens... But the 30X zoom... so easy and nothing else heavy to take with me. If I drove to the port, I'd take the other camera too!!!

Great suggestions in both the above posts...

Great! Thank you very much! Believe it or not, that definitely helps with some on ship planning!

And keep those beautiful pictures coming! Right now my wife and I are living vicariously through you! :p

I'm glad I could help... and I hope you write a review when you return!!!

Marking my spot !

Hee hee hee... THANKS!!!

Out of curiosity, since you were on the Port side, on this itinerary with the Day at Sea on the first full day, heading north, do you get any kind of view? Or would it be better to be on the Starboard side? Just trying to pick a side before booking.

I've spent time thinking about this... and I'm trying to decide which side I want...

Pros and cons:

We had storms on the way up to Alaska, so I don't think I missed much of the coast on the Starboard side... But in Tracy Arms: The Starboard side was the side the Naturalist would speak more about. She talked about both sides... but, her eyes, or maybe her place on the bridge, saw the Starboard side first... So she announced it first...

The way back and in ports, I'm so HAPPY we had the port side. On the way back, we had the coastline and it was more daytime hours and clearer weather for our cruise.

SO... when I go again, I think I'll pick Starboard for a change -- an odd number cabin... if I can't get an aft or aft wrap!

All that said... I LOVED going to Deck 3 forward... and going outside there... on EITHER side and standing and watching and taking photos!! So I don't think I missed anything on the Starboard side...

I know, I didn't answer it clearly. But I think either works!!!

(Am I talking like a politician or what???)

Does the Carnival Spirit Alaska cruise follow the inside passage sailing both north and south? In your opinion, which is the best side to be on - Port or Starboard?

What PERFECT timing to ask that... read my last post...

I LOVED the port... and at first I was frustrated we didn't have Starboard... You leave Seattle in the evening and I loved seeing the port side, while it was still light and I saw the sunsets...

Going up the coast was all at night, in the dark... On the first Sea Day, it was rather stormy and rainy, so I didn't miss much and when I wanted to take a photo on the Starboard, I went to Deck 3 or the Serentity Deck... both are covered...

Yes... in the Inside passage or Tracy Arms Fjords, the ship goes up, does a 360 at the glacier so ALL/both sides see, and comes back the same way it went in!!! Either side is fine... but the naturalist did talk more about things on the Starboard side.

And I'm not sure I would care which side for my next cruise... but I'll look for an odd numbered cabin, if there are equal choices.

I DID LOVE the extended balcony for weather protect in the rain...

They cruise the Alaskan part of the inside passage... But they sail around Vancouver island and only cruise the British Columbia inside portion if they are either coming into Vancouver or leaving from it. (the BC portions are not true sea days as you can see land from either side of the ship, while sailing around Vancouver Island the ocean is pretty much all you see)

Hope this helps :)

Loving your review....did they have blankets out on the serenity area? Did they serve hot chocolate at all? Not that we watch a lot of TV but it looks like there is no big screen, is that correct?

Great review so far! Don't you love these new cameras? Mine only had a 18X zoom. There were many times I wished for more.

Isn't it amazing and just mind blowing to see the quiet, serenity, and vastness of Alaska compared to the fast and furious life styles we live?

Honestly.....pictures and words can't capture the intense beauty. But, I know if anyone can, you will!
