Tampa port hotel

If booking via Hotwire what area would you recommend we book. We will be driving into Tampa, we are parking our car at the port, so we only need a hotel for the night before. What is there to do downtown tampa? would it be worth getting a hotel downtown, or should we just go for an airport area hotel?

I am in Tampq right now at the Embassy Suites. It's a couple blocks down from the port, includes free breakfast.

The Florida Aquarium and the Tampa Bay History Museum are within walking distance of the port. Ybor City with it's rich heritage and great restaurants is a couple of blocks away.

My wife and I stayed at the Embassy Suites and includes a really good breakfast. It's right down the street from the port. Very easy to use. Valet service for your car as well.

We are staying at the Hampton Inn at Ybor City before our cruise next month. We got the park and cruise pkg for $94 per night. This includes parking for the duration of the cruise, transportation to and from the port and breakfast. Not bad when you consider that to park at the port is $75 for a five night cruise.

We booked the Tahitian Inn, they have a park & cruise, we paid $99 total for room and to park our car, they shuttle you to the port (10 min).
