VISTA suite on RIVIERA/MARINA

We went through the Canal last year on the Marina in 11083, one of the deck 11 Aft Oceania Suites, and based on that experience, the higher decks seem to give a better (i.e. more panoramic) view of the entire canal process:

There are times when, if your forward facing balcony is not raised sufficiently above the fore-deck, the "view" can be compromised

So please, don't rule out Decks 10 and 12 when making your selection.... :D

Maybe not intended but this is excellent view of B4 extended verandas.

hi, we were in 9001 which I think had the biggest balcony. The only issue - and this was significant - was that we could not be out on the balcony if the ship was moving, it was too windy. We complained to Oceania when we got back, but we were told that we had been given a letter that told us this upon embarkation. However, we were not given a letter about this at all.

We would not book a front-facing suite with Oceania again because of this. We have had similar front-facing suites with NCL in the past, and not had this problem.

Even if you had gotten the letter upon embarkation, what would/could you have done about it by then? If you had gotten the letter at the time of booking, you might have changed your mind.

Agreed; if we had been warned of this even as a risk upon booking, we'd have never booked the suite. Our travel agent was unaware of this as well.

But I do not see other complaints about this, perhaps this was unique to our cruise? Ironically we'd been in a front-facing corner suite on NCL as well - on the Sun, the owner's suite - on the same itinerary (Caribbean) and in fact the same month (year earlier) and did not have this problem.

Any forward facing balcony is going to be windy at some stage....it depends entirely on wind strength and direction. I don't have a problem with it on Marina or Riviera as the balcony railing is solid and provides a good windbreak if you want to sit out and sunbathe.

If your travel agent can't mention a basic like this then they are probably not best suited to selling cruises.....

How *was* that Sun OS? We are considering one of those for an Alaska cruise next year, so we get as good a "vista" view as possible.

We figure that's the cruise with the most value in the onboard "view", in addition to a Canal cruise.

Did you feel too "exposed" if at the rail, in terms of people on the outside observation deck above?

Good to know that the wind might not be too much of a concern, though one can stay inside if necessary (wind, rain?) with the large windows.

(We want to include Glacier Bay, so that restricts the choice of cruise lines and ships.)

Thanks!

loved the corner OS on the Sun, the wraparound deck was just perfect. Yes people could see us, but there were 2 areas where we could sit and no one could watch. You feel very "alone" away from the hub bub. Very good views, would be perfect for Alaska. Be sure to bring very warm clothes though, we went in July and should have brought parkas.

our cruise was caribbean, so don't know if the OS can withstand the wind in Alaska..
