Atlantis Advice

We are sailing to Nassau in January on the 3 day Disney Dream cruise. I am getting 2 items off my bucket list in one cruise... one, going on one of the newer Disney ship and two... seeing Atlantis. I don't really need to see ALL of the property, but I would like to do the big water slide and just enjoy the pool and maybe the beach... what is the best way to do this? Is it easy to take a taxi from the ship to Atlantis and back again?

In order to view the property, do the slide and enjoy the pools, you'll need an all access day pass. You can purchase them thru the ship, or at Atlantis same day if available. Passes are $135pp. / $80 for kids.

Keep in mind that January weather can be iffy. It may not be wet water weather.

Also, the waterpark closes at dusk during the winter.. which is around 4:30pm .

You might want to rethink Atlantis on this trip. There's not alot to see without some sort of pass. The Casino (no kids), marina village and some high end shops are all that are open to the public. You cannot even look out the window or veranda without a day pass.

Taxi's are available for $4pp. from the port exit.

Holy crap that is a lot of money... I may just do the tour and take pictures. That seems like a lot of money to go on a slide. Thanks for the advise. The taxi price seems reasonable though.

In my group of 4 adults... I am the only one that wants to do the waterslide stuff... can the rest of my group do the tour with me and then find a nearby beach to spend the day at while I try to scare the crap out of myself on the slides?

There's no real way to TOUR without a day pass. You are not allowed to roam around the lobbies, or check out the verandas and you are certainly not allowed on the outdoor property.. When you enter the lobby, security will "escort" you to the casino.. Thats' all you are allowed to see without a paid pass. Marina Village, which i adjacent to the Atlantis, but not part of the property, is open to the public. It's just a group of shops and eateries in a courtyard.

If you book the day pass for 1, you're friends will not be allowed anywhere near you. They can wait for you at the public beach nearby.

I can get a "travel agent" tour that I can bring them along with. Then I can send them to the beach and I can play on the water slide ;)

Thanks again for your information, you are very helpful.

Scuba Girl, if we are there 10-7pm with two teens, do you recommend doing Atlantis Waterpark through Majestic Tours. How do you get the tickets?

You didn't mention what dates.. keep in mind that the waterpark closes at 4:30pm during winter months. It gets dark early.

As for tickets. If you want a guarantee, either get them thru the cruiselines. Book a room, or go online and book thru www.majestictoursbahamas.com

With majestic, you book in advance and pick up the tickets when you get there.. they have a desk in the Atlantis. make sure you check cancellation policies, no matter where you book.

Also, make sure you leave plenty of time to get back to the ship. Traffic on the bridge going back starts to back up around 4:30. The 10 minute trip can take an hour or so.

We will be there June 29th. I was going to get a room at the comfort suites. Do you think the cab driver will wait til we check in to drop us off where you get the wrist bands at Atlantis? I have a torn ligament and wanted to save the walking for the resort. Pelase advise. I didn't want to do this but the teens really want to so I promised.

the cab is usually a shuttle.. with many other passengers, so I doubt they would wait.. it's less than a 5 minute walk to the drop off point.

As for walking with a torn ligament.. all I can say is "don't do it". Atlantis is HUGE.. and even if you're driver drops you at the door, you will walk another 10 minutes just to get your wristband, and another 10-15 just to get to the waterpark. This is not the place for those who have trouble walking or getting about.

What building do they get their writstbands at after going to Comfort Suites?

I believe it's the lower level in the Coral Towers.. everyone must get their own wristbands at the same time. so if you are going with them, you'll have to make it down to the table as well. there is an elevator, but it's out of the way and not easy to find.

Scubagirrl, The two adults in our party are just going to park it at one of the pools while the teens (17 and 14) do the water park stuff. We are in port from 10 am - 7pm. What time do you think we should head back to the ship (I don't want to play it close)? Also, any suggestions on keeping in touch with the teens while they are in the waterpark? Do people use walkie talkies? Any suggestions appreciated.

Since you need to be back on the ship by 6:30.. I would suggest you be in a cab by 5:15 the latest.

You are aware that you have to pay for a all access pass.. just to use the pools.. right.. and you will need to get a wristband. I feel so bad for you having to do this with a injury. they don't make it easy.

As for walkie talkies.. they don't work very well on the grounds.. best to just pick a spot and time to report back.. Make sure your kids stay together... with 10,000 strangers in the park at one time, you need to be aware of what goes on around you.
