Sun Lounger Hoggers on the Dream next week BEWARE!!

Recommended Posts

I don't know what has happened but i think i may have tripped and banged my head......the result is i have developed super-powers.

I am on a crusade to rid The Dream of my nemesis the vile and evil army of Sun bed hoggers.

I can hear from afar the cry's of the lonely towels, and books, all they want is company, the towels just wish to keep you comfortable and the books just want to be read and entertain you, but oh no, those evil sun bed hoggers leave them all alone for hours on end abuse of the highest level.

But i will rescue them and free them from this torment, i will make them so happy by giving them to the lovely reception staff who will look after them and care for them.

But i will leave my calling card yes my trusty post it note (these are special super power post it notes) with a brief message on informing the wicked owners of their emancipation from their lonely abuse.

So watch out, be nice to your towels and books they deserve you love and attention

Signed

Go caped Crusader, there should be more people like you,one of my pet hates when people hog their sun beds and promptly leave them all day. So unfair!

I was once on holiday and a teenage boy had his arm across a pile of around 10 sunbeds that were stacked high, he said oh I'm saving them for when my family get here, there are 12 of us, I just said tough and took one from the top!

My worry is getting them near the pool. The Kids are like fish & will probably want to swim a lot of the time. Wonder how much grief I'm going to get for taking kids on board??

Read a few posts on here of people huffing & puffing because of kids having fun in the pool

Oh of course, stupid me, wish you'd have told me lol!! The fact I've paid exactly the same for the kids as I have the adults is irrelevant.

Some people forget what it's like to have children & tar them all with the same brush. Just let me hear anyone say anything about my kids splashing in the pool, being noisy in the pool, having fun etc & they'll feel my wrath believe me

My kids are well behaved (most of the time :p) & have been brought up to have good manners & be respectful BUT they are kids & have as much right to be on the ship as anyone else but also to be allowed to act like kids :D

If they moan about any kids I'll be reminding them that June & September are child free months hehehe

Rant over :D

I am one that prefers the child free months after being lumbered for 2 weeks with a cruise full of families that let their children run free all over the ship, how can you relax and have peace ( which holidays are all about) when this is allowed to happen, I have plenty of kids/grandkids also, of my own but my holiday is a place to relax. Children are supposed to be escorted by their parents not running everywhere, such as buffet using their hands picking up food putting it back after taking a bite! unfortunately Thomsons seem to have less adult only cruises now and we feel we are being forced away from them, if I wanted a child friendly cruise would have gone with one with great facilities for kids unlike Thomsons, have taken our kids before and they were bored stiff. Never left our side either, would be interested if anyone knows any cruise lines that dont have children besides SAGA

Tarring all kids/families with the same brush!!!

We go on holiday to relax & my kids deserve some fun, they have as much right to be there as YOU do!! They work hard at school, my son is working for his GCSE'S a year early as he's very clever, he also plays cricket & football for his local teams, goes to the gym 3 times a week & does television work so I'll be darned if ANYONE says he doesn't deserve a holiday. Probably more so than some people IMO.

My Husband is older than our kids Grandparents (my parents) so he's not 'young' & will want to relax as will I with a very stressful job. Don't get me wrong I don't like the families you've described either but stop tarring them all with the same brush.

Again go in June or September if you don't like or approve of children holidaying with their family!:mad::mad:

If you prefer child free months then why did you go on a cruise where there would be families

Every one is entitled to a good holiday and tolerance is required from all, i found a particularly rude, racist and distasteful couple on my last cruise, but did i then post on any review site or forums that all old people are ignorant, racist and rude (as you seem to infer that all the children on your recent cruise were misbehaving) and that it completely spoiled my holiday and they should be relegated to other lines or not allowed to holiday at all, no, it was a minor point, that yes, spoiled my enjoyment of an evening for the time i had to sit with them (even racist bigots are allowed to have holidays).

I am sorry that you felt you could not tolerate the children on your last cruise but i do find it a little hard to believe that the bad behavior was continual from all children for the duration.

Never mind if i had been on-board at that time, me with my new found superpowers i could have teleported you some where more suitable if you asked nicely. (somewhere without soot, skwarking musicians, and people trying to talk to you over breakfast and lunch ;))

On a serious note from other comments you have made in posts and your review, the change (if any) in demographics does not now fit with your ideas of a relaxing holiday therefore either a change of line may have to be considered or specifically booking an Adults only week, as all the other ships in the Fleet for the majority of the year take and welcome children.

In responce to your query regarding adult only lines, i understand P & O have Arcadia/Adonia  that are adult only ships

I would like to point out that last New Year on the Destiny the kids I saw were great and would sit in the show lounge all dressed up

and were never a problem . You would see kids in the Lido using the food tongs and showing better manners than some of the grown ups.

Later one night sat in the Sky Bar everyones chilled out ,nice Ambience records playing like UB40,Simply Red etc, been like this a good hour or so ,when out of the lift pops a big man who was loud and within five minutes was shouting "can we turn that crap off please" He wanted a bit of Jazz and when they played music to his satisfaction, he then spoke to his tables company as if they were 100 yards away , everyone got every word of his conversation :(

This Year January is an adults only sailing and I can assure you that is not the reason that I booked it . :)

hi,

Been going on cruises now for a while and as i have no problems with children being on cruises.

some parents think as they cannot get off the ship ,this means they havnt got to worry about where they are and what they are doing.

i try to cruise during term time but some parents are responsible IMO

taking them out of school early before term ends.

yes i do know it is cheaper.

i bet this offends but its the truth.

Sorry idontlikekidson cruise, your post does not make sense, firstly you have a user name idontlikekids are you trying to be ironic:confused:

And what do you bet offends? you state you have no problem with children on cruises....why would that offend??

'some parents think as they cannot get off the ship, this means they haven't got to worry about where they are and what they are doing' do you mean they are not being supervised (children) whilst on board clearly the fault lies with the Adults, certainly for younger children a ship could be a dangerous place so it is not only dangerous but irresponsible...again no offence can be taken not the childs fault.

I presume that is a typing error in your last statement and you meant irresponsible, taking children out of school, on this i would refer you to price check again as the difference between term and non term time is negligible. Not all school holidays cover the same periods and public schools have far longer holidays so difficult to judge whether a child is holidaying in term time. There are other factors as well not just saving a few £££ parents holiday commitments, perhaps a special family (all generations holiday has been organised) so probably best not to generalize

The enrichment a child can get on a cruise from the social aspects through to the exposure to different countries and cultures IMO would warrant me to have taken permission from my children's school for a leave of absence for any of the above given reasons.

Also with a user name such as Idontlikekids and this first post (after joining today) of yours being on quite an emotive subject some may think that you could be 'trolling' i sincerely hope that this is not the case.

My kids holiday when we can holiday no matter what the cost. I am self employed so can take time when I need within reason, however, Hubby is not so lucky. His holidays are set & are different every year but yes we have taken the kids out of school twice this school year both for 2 weeks because that is the only way they would get a holiday. Last october for Florida & this weekend for our 2 week cruise.

We had agreed that the next two years we will not take them out of school as my son is going into year 10 & although he's started them a year early the next two years are vital with GCSE's. As it happens Hubby's holidays have fell next August so we'll be holidaying then so as you see for us it's got nothing to do with cost.

Just another generalisation I'd like to put right so obviously not the truth as you state.

I don't tend to sit around or go in a pool much when on board as we are usually off the boat when in port and am too tired when I get back to do anything other than have a nap before dinner !!!!!

I tend to have a quick dip in the pool from time to time and have no problem with whoever is in there , after all it is all of us who are on our holiday's.

The only time I have a problem is when you get the parent who has more interest in topping up the tan than looking after / supervising their child who is getting up to all sorts (luckily this is quite rare in my experience) and then when little Johnny or Jenny get into trouble (or fall overboard!!!) it's everyone else's fault but theirs.

In my experience of cruising I have actually come across more annoying adults around the pool / boat than I have children and I actually find that the children I have met have always been well behaved and well mannered.

I work in education and can only go away when it is school holiday time so you can imagine that after a year of being around children all day my tolerance levels are low , but what we actually will be doing this year is that we are doing a cruise and stay and on our 2nd week we stay at the Platja D'or in Alcudia which is Adults only so in this way we compromise and get the best of both worlds.

Hope you have a fantastic time next week , we got our e-tickets today and go on Dream on the 11th August , I can't wait !!!!!!!!!!

Also have Olympic tickets so looking forward to Summer ( if it ever stops raining !!!!! )

Have fun and look forward to your postings when your back.:)

Hi

My kids are 14 & 8 so not like they are small but I like to know exactly where they are & what they're doing, which as their parent is my responsibility & Hubby's of course :p

I'm a childminder so I also work with children daily, obviously not on your scale but a houseful all the same arghhhhhh, so yes I agree that while ever children are being watched & not allowed to run riot & be rude/disrespectfull then they can be a pleasure to be in the company of.

My daughter can't wait to wear all her new party dresses, shoes & accessories & I can guarantee my Son will be better behaved than some of the adults!! He's too old for his own good & will be the best dressed at dinner in his pinstripe suit lol :D

You will be on board for our wedding anniversary on 12th August so have a drink for us lol. We have the same two weeks next year as you have this we just can't decide what to do or where to go

Me & the kids are also going to Alcudia with my Mum on 30 July as Hubby is working the Olympics in London for the week, never been to Alcudia but have been told its beautiful. Have you been before?

Have a fabulous cruise & stay & enjoy the Olympics. I know Hubby is looking forward to being part of it.

Like others have said, Thomson do child free cruises & so do P&O (can't remember which ships though)

We have travelled with our children on Thomson Cruises in the height of the school holidays and I can't say that we have seen "children running free all over the ship". I have seen parents with their children & teenagers having a really good, family time together, eating meals together as a family, playing in the pools, taking trips together to see different wonders of the world, children & teens mixing and socialising with other passengers, joining in the fun on the ship and generally having a good time which is what family holidays should be about, shouldn't they??!!

We love Thomson cruises because they DON'T have super duper kids clubs, climbing walls, ice rinks etc etc. It's a real shame that your kids were "bored stiff" on a Thomson Cruise; can't think why as there's so much to do and enjoy and most of all have a great time together and see some of the world.

My very young at heart parents (my Dad has just turned 70, although I think he's forgotten that!) have just returned from their first Saga all inclusive holiday on a small 30 passenger boat cruising the islands of Croatia - they had a fab time, with lots of fun plenty of laughs, saw some wonderful sights and lots of other fun people on board too so maybe Saga really wouldn't be good for you either if you enjoy peace & quiet??

Hi

12th August is our daughter's birthday ( which we nearly always miss !! ) but she will be 25 so isn't too upset !

We have been to Alcudia before at the same hotel and it is a really nice area and we like it. I'm sure you will too .

WE live and work in London so it is already madness but we are looking forward to experieincing all the atmosphere and fun , after all it won't happen again in my lifetime (cost us a fortune in our council tax though !!!!! ).

By the way , how is your cold , are you feeling better. I always manage to feel ill about 2 days after I arrive on holiday.

Have a fab time :D
