Onboard spending bonus for 3rd/4th guests

Just checking to see if I understand the rules for bonus days... 3rd/4th guests do not receive bonus days, but their onboard spending counts towards the cabin's total for the 1st/2nd guests? For example, if there are 4 people in the same cabin and each person spends $300 for a total of $1200, then the 1st and 2nd guests get 4 bonus days? Thanks in advance for clarifying!

You have it correct -- only the 1st and 2nd passengers get the spending bonus points.

As per HAL's web site:

Earn Bonus Cruise Day Credits

Increase your Mariner Star status simply by enjoying your cruise.

In addition to earning Cruise Day credits for each actual day sailed, there are also easy ways you can earn bonus Cruise Day credits. The more Cruise Day credits you collect, the faster you increase your Mariner Star status, and the more exciting rewards you’ll receive.

  • Suite Bonus When you pay a published fare for a spacious suite or penthouse on your next cruise you’ll not only enjoy special amenities, but you’ll also qualify for double cruise day credits. For example, a guest who pays published fare for suite accommodations for a 10-day cruise earns 20 cruise day credits.
  • Onboard Spending Bonus Effective with cruises on or after September 18, 2009, one bonus cruise day credit will be granted for each $300 in eligible onboard purchases. This is calculated on the combined folio charges for all guests on the booking, regardless of who signs each charge and who pays the bill. There is a limit of one bonus day for each day sailed, and 3rd and 4th guests on the same booking do not earn the onboard spending bonus†.
  • Guests can earn bonus days for cruises beginning September 18, 2009 in accordance with the Program Launch Schedule.

One of the things it might mean is that you cannot earn more days by spending than you earn for number of days of your cruise.

For a seven day cruise, you can only earn 7 days worth of spending bonus days.

Purchases made in advance of boarding such as Pinnacle reservations, shore excursions and the like are all eligible and counted. Purchases made in lounges for beverages, in the shops, excursions booked while on board, spa, salon, alternative dining upcharges all are counted in 'eligible purchases'. :)

Any idea what qualifies as "Eligible" in the statement " $300 in eligible onboard purchases". Does this mean purchaes from the on board shops, or does it include spa, alcohol, etc? Just curious

From Mariner Society FAQs:

Q: Are any onboard charges excluded from the onboard purchases bonus?

A: All casino charges, cash advances, Future Cruise deposits, and associated fees are excluded. All other onboard purchases including Hotel Service Charge, Beverage Service Charge, taxes, pre-booked shore excursions and all gift items purchased online or through Ship Services count towards bonus cruise day credits.
