stanc3 Posted August 18, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 18, 2012 We are flying to Budapest to start our Uniworld river cruise in October. Uniworld suggested that we take paper prescriptions. Make sure you have a paper copy of any prescriptions from your doctor. This is a safeguard in case a customs agent asks, “What is this bottle for?” Also, it is best to make sure all prescription medications are in their original containers. We have always taken our medication in a daily pill reminder case rather bottles when we traveled to Europe. What have others done? Thanks,

beverlyjack Posted August 18, 2012 #3 Share Posted August 18, 2012 We have never been challenged for paper prescriptions or original bottles, in over 50 countries, but one thing is critical. That is, having the generic name of the medications you are on. We have had to get a replacement for a lost prescription in France and the pharmacist had a difficult time determining the equivalent. You need this also if you need medical attention of any sort, as the physician needs to know what you are on to know how to treat you. Of course this is not to say not to have paper prescriptions or original bottles, just that we have not been challenged

Thanks, If you are taking pain medication that is a controlled substance, you should take the written prescription. I don't bother with my cholesterol meds. elleks Posted August 18, 2012 #5 Share Posted August 18, 2012 We take my husband's meds (15 of them!) in the original containers, and fill the dosage box when we get onboard.
Rare franski Posted August 18, 2012 #6 Share Posted August 18, 2012 My DH takes his meds in a dosette (ie: plastic container with sections for each day) and paper copies of the prescriptions. Another option would be to ask your pharmacy for a list of meds on their letterhead. Fran
Barrheadlass Posted August 18, 2012 #7 Share Posted August 18, 2012 We were just talking about this today! We aren't taking paper either, just the original bottles. I can certainly understand there being a possible problem if there are painkillers involved, but we don't have any.
