tasmith09 Posted September 13, 2012 #1 Share Posted September 13, 2012 Considering the Homestead Blue Lagoon and getting 2 rooms for 75 ea/night. Includes kitchenette. Any opinions? Decent area, near anything? We are flying in to MIA 2 days prior to our April cruise and in need of a hotel that we aren't sleeping in the same room as the in-laws. We would prefer to not spend much over $300 for the 2 nights total. Are there any hotels with 2 bedrooms that are affordable? It would be nice to have a kitchenette to prepare meals on Saturday or at the very least a fridge and microwave. I know its probably asking too much, but we'd like to be as near to any touristy areas as possible to avoid pricy cab fare.
eandj Posted September 13, 2012 #2 Share Posted September 13, 2012 The Blue lagoon area is very nice. Newer hotels, restaurants in walking distance. But if you want to be near "sites" not the place to be for a couple days. But... if you want to be near the "sites" of Miami, depending when you will be there, you will pay a ton more. You could rent a car for your stay and head to Miami Beach/S. Beach to see the "real" Miami that you are probably are referring to. When are you staying? tasmith09 Posted September 13, 2012 Author #4 Share Posted September 13, 2012 Also, what are our options for transportation from airport to the hotel, and from the hotel to the port?
JohninDC Posted September 13, 2012 #5 Share Posted September 13, 2012 I would stay at the Homewood Suites Blue Lagoon - dining (Cuban, Italian & Chinese plus fast food) and a strip mall (grocery, drug and liquor stores :D) within walking distance. Monday-Thursdays there is a "free" managers reception in the afternoon - snacks, beer and wine. ;) You can take the hotel shuttle back to the MIA airport and catch the airport flyer bus to South Beach for only $2.35 each -- lots of people watching, shopping, dining and nightlife there, plus a great beach! http://www.miamidade.gov/transit/library/airport_flyer_brochure.pdf On the day of your cruise you can arrange for shared shuttle service through the front desk for about $10-12 per person, or ask them to call a mini-van cab for you; fare should be about $30 and 4 of you should fit unless some pack like my spouse. :o Good luck! :)

cheriberi Posted September 13, 2012 #7 Share Posted September 13, 2012 We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite at the Hyatt House right around the corner from the Homewood Suites prior to our cruise last February. Each bedroom has a private bath and there is a full kitchen. They also offer a free breakfast every morning. The hotel is within walking distance to a grocery store. They provide a free shuttle from the airport and will arrange transportation to the cruise port for a nominal fee. This is a very nice hotel and we would definitely stay there again. tasmith09 Posted September 13, 2012 Author #8 Share Posted September 13, 2012 I did look into that one. It looks so nice. If we can come up with the extra $$, that is definitely a better option:)
