I am just wondering how much you guys tip when you order room service. Let's say you are in your cabin and order a drink and a light snack. How much do you tip your room attendant when (s)he brings it to you?

I agree $2-3 dollars is good. Remember, your cabin steward is only getting about $3 a day per person from you and servicing your cabin is considerably more work.

On Disney Wonder last year I ordered food but also about 6 of their large, delicious chocolate chip cookies. I gave that guy $5 to cover my guilt! :D

SEA PRINCESS MAY 2005 yeah baby!

We always order coffee in the morning and sometimes toast but never a meal but I get $2 bills before we leave and they love them

That is a great idea!

I am going with my 15 year old son, and he is cheap. I can just see him order a zillion times a day when i am not there and not tipping them at all. I had best make sure I have plenty of $2 bills on hand...

On Carnival Cabin stewards are not delivering room service.

Tip when service is rendered coz you may not get the same service person to deliver the second time.

I have a question: when ordering alcohic drinks to the cabin do these get tipped also? since the gratuity is also on the price?

tip#1 soda cards or drink coupons can not be used for room service.

So if you have a soda card, you still have to pay for a coke if you order it for room service? Are you sure?

Here is the policy

What is the Fountain Fun Card?spacer.gifWe will offer to all guests the option to purchase a "Fountain Fun Card" which will allow them unlimited soft drinks for the duration of the cruise at a one time purchase price (including gratuities). The "Fountain Fun Card" can be purchased at any bar on board the ship. In all locations where beverage service is offered, guests may receive a glass of the soft drink of their choice - one glass will be served at a time and only to the guest whose name appears on the card. The card cannot be used through room service.

NOTE: A 15% gratuity will automatically be added on at the time of purchase of the Fountain Fun Card.

Oh my heck. Shoot. Better tell my son that. So if you order coke through room service they wil add it to your bill? What other hidden charges should I watch out for?

We prepaid a tip, supposedly the going rate (about $280?), but this is not included for room services? Also, I've heard that tipping our steward up front (about $20) is worth it because of the better treatment we'll get throughout the cruise. Is that always the case?

I guess, even though we prepaid, we should also take a handful of cash for more tipping.

I also heard of checking in water/sodas/alcohol in luggage to save a few bucks. Sounds like this might work as long as we keep ice handy and we can use the empty luggage for purchases during the trip.

LESS THAN TWO WEEKS!!! :D :D

Cabin stewards do not deliver room service orders. However, any one that brings an order, in a bar, casino or the show lounge expect, and deserve a tip. I give room service orders a $2-3 tip for each order. The waiters are making little hourly rates.

Yes, so if you son wants to order a lot of Cokes thru room service, he might as well drink the ones provided in the cabin @ $2.50 each. About the same - (cost of room service coke plus $1 tip).

What other hidden charges should I watch out for?

NONE of these charges are 'hidden'. Everything is spelled out in Carnival's brochures, website, and 'Welcome Aboard' booklet you get w/your docs.:)

HIdden charges?? make sure you tell your son to make phone calls from the ship to a long missed girl friend will cost him a LOT of money. (even with using a phone card)

To clarify, your prepaid tips cover the following:

$10 per person per day:

$3.50 per day to cabin steward

$5.50 per day to dining room waiter & assistant

$1.00 per day to Lido Deck dining personnel

Also, I've heard that tipping our steward up front (about $20) is worth it because of the better treatment we'll get throughout the cruise. Is that always the case?

Heavens no, this is not necessary at all. I have never tipped a cabin steward anything 'upfront' to get better service. These guys work their butts off, and it doesn't matter if you do that or not - they'll still do the same great job in keeping your cabin nice and clean twice a day, fill ice buckets twice a day, do turn-down service with mints each night, and try to do anything extra you ask of them. (I DO, however, tip him a little extra at the end of the cruise.)

Your cabin steward is not involved with room service.....so whenever the room service delivery person makes a delivery, he/she should be tipped. I'm a solo cruiser, and I tip $1 for just coffee and Danish - but I tip $2 if I order sandwiches, cookies, etc.

Other tipping:

The porters at the pier are not Carnival employees, and you should tip them approx. $1 per piece of luggage.

I also heard of checking in water/sodas/alcohol in luggage to save a few bucks. Sounds like this might work as long as we keep ice handy and we can use the empty luggage for purchases during the trip.

Works for me every cruise. I take a 6-pk of the 16-oz. plastic-bottled Cokes to have in my cabin. There's always plenty of ice. Carnival does allow a 'reasonable' amount of soft drinks to be brought on board.

LESS THAN TWO WEEKS!!!

Have a great cruise!

I ALWAYS tip the person who delivers room service. Usually $2 but if I get a bunch of stuff $3.

You CAN write in a tip amount on the slip that they bring for you to sign if you do not have access to small bills....BUT I am not sure how this works as far as how the server gets the money so I always keep some small bills on hand.

I have also never given my cabin steward an extra tip on the first day of a cruise and my service was always great! I prefer to tip as I go along or at the end of the cruise. I also keep the suggested tips on my sign and sail account for ease.

I have never ordered "fee" beverages via room service so I can't answer the question about whether tip is included on that. If I have my children with me I tell them that if they want a "fee beverage" they must go and use the fountain card somewhere and can bring it back to the cabin.

If you don't ever eat in the dining room at all, do you still have to tip the waiter there?

The waiters and asst waiter will be working the area of the buffet on their off time. Serving the food to the buffet- cleaning up etc etc. It is not rare to see your asst waiter at the buffet between courses at dinner. If you know that you will not set foot in the dining room let the matre de know that you wont be there so he an give your seats away.

The waiters/asst waiters count on tips. It is not their fault that your chairs are empty and they have no way to recoop that loss.

Who the heck stays in the room on a cruise;)? I think we just slept there;) and not much.Too much going on.We did order room service one night for dinner.Food is good.I tipped 2 bucks per order.I also tipped my cabbin steward 15 bucks above the normal charge and his assistant about 5.I think they cleaned our room 3-4 times a day and you hardly saw them.Remember these folks work on tips and about $45 dollars monthly salary. and they work hard.So spread some of the wealth around if your on vacation.

I totally agree with Serene.:)

Here, here!

Dollar for dollar these tips are still less than what you would pay for tips if you were on a vacation and went out for meals and paid tips based on the standard 15 - 20%.
