M&M Solo

Today is final payment day. Solo balcony on RCI. Only second RCI cruise and 1st solo on this line. I've looked @ the meet and mingle board and seems like I may be the only solo to sign up. Admit to having cold feet and am on the fence. Any ideas? Don't like being odd man (woman) out, but read encouagement about joining roll calls. Input please.

Solo, I would not let that bother you. unless your looking for a room mate to pay part of it. There is something to be said by cruising by your self and meeting someone on board. I guess because I am a man I say that as I would love to cruise any cruise by my self and meet people on board. Once on board just look around and you will find someone to hang with for excursions or maybe someone to go on another cruise with. If you don't, it is not meant to happen, there.

Jump right in, by the time the cruise comes you won't be the only solo! Most importantly you'll have a great time and will be surrounded by others that share a very fun same interest as you "cruising and travel"!

Have a great cruise!

Jump into the roll call with both feet:) Even if there aren't other solos on the roll call there are group activities which may be of interest to you. And you could find an activity that interests you, research it, find a tour operator and then ask if anyone on the roll call wants to join. We have many group activities on my upcoming B2B, one of which I put together. I'm having dinner at Portofino's with three couples from my roll call and there are 10 of us going to dinner together in Aruba. There are group snorkeling tours, etc., as well. Once you are in the ship you will meet other singles/solos/couples/families, etc. Some friends/family cruise together but don't want to do the same things so they are looking for someone who does want to, for example, go to the casino, see a show, etc. I like time on my own when cruising but I also enjoy group activities so I get the best of both worlds. What I like best about Roll Calls is that the people you met through them are sort of touch stones for you during the cruise, even if you aren't hanging out together. You see them in the restaurants, hallways, at the shows and have friendly faces.

Go and have a great time.

Hi,:) I have been sailing solo for 8 years and will be leaving for another

one on Friday:D

I don't really care if I am the only solo person on the roll call. If someone

on there has an issue? It is their problem not mine and to be honest,

most folks on cruises are very friendly:)

I would definitely sign up and at least pop in to say hello. My current

roll call? Not one of the friendliest I have ever been on, but not the

worst either.

At this point? I am in the middle of packing to move the day after

I get back from my cruise:eek: so I am just looking forward to relaxing

for a week.......:)......once I get on the ship? I always meet friendly

folks:D

My advice to you is to get off that fence and go. You will enjoy it. That is how I have met many of my friends on cruises, some longlasting friendships.

I agree with the other posters, I always travel solo and some times I have been the only solo traveler on the roll call, but I would go anyway if I were you. You get to meet some nice people and have someone aboard that you know throughout the cruise. Neil

you guys (ya'll) are the best! thank you. I'm putting on my big girl britches and diving in! thanks again. GB

I'll be starting a "live" cruise report Wednesday night. I sail Thursday, for 9 days in a non traditional back to back. Cruising solo, be sure to follow along. :-)

I would definitely go the meet and mingle, if nothing else, at least you will get to recognise people around the ship.

I've only had three solo cruises, and two of them have been on RCI ships. The first, on Brilliance of the Seas, there was no m&m, and I had opted for mytime dining, so didn't get a chance to get to know anyone over dinner. The second was on Voyager of the Seas, and I had made contact with a number of people on the roll call beforehand. I linked my dinner reservation with some other solo travellers, which was good.

Voyager was a completely different experience to Brilliance, as there were a number of singles lunches whereas there was nothing on Brilliance. I guess it depends on how many single passengers there are on board whether or not arrangements are made for us.

I like to join in with activities so usually meet people that way. I think it's the same in real life - it's often the same people who are 'joiners in'!

I like to have people to chat to, but am quite happy to while away my time on a sunlounger with a good book.

Never go into a vacation with any pre-expectations. If you focus on the negatives like having "cold feet" or "on the fence" or "only single signed up" or "odd man/women" then you are already setting yourself up for failure. Yes, absolutely do the M&M. What do you have to lose? Don't worry about what might or might not happen or who you will meet or not. Who knows? Unless you have some sort of physic abilities or crystal ball you can't predict what can or can't happen. Smile, be friendly and don't be afraid to let people know you are sailing solo. There is nothing bad or wrong about cruising solo. This world isn't just made up of just couples nor is this ship called the s/s Noah's Arc. Also, don't discount couples....many are very accepting of other single people. Sometimes more so then other singles. Make a list on things you want to do and see on your cruise and focus on that. You make the cruise what you want out of it and don't let fear control your mind.
