silly Debarkation in ft lauderdale question?

How does getting bags work once off the ship is it like the airport and a conveyor belt for each color group or everyone at once or all the same colored tag bags are put in their own pile in a big room and we have to search for them.

Also, I have a late flight out of FLL (5pm). Is there any problem with staying on board till almost end of debarking (not going when color is called)? I do not want to sit any longer than I have to at airport.

Thanks.

Suitcases for each color group will be in one area, and all suitcases will be in rows - definitely NOT in a pile :). Make sure you attach some tags or other items that help you identify yours from other similar ones because when there are a few thousand of them it can be quite easy to take the wrong one !!!!

For most cruise lines, if the ship docks at about 7am - 8am, they usually have everyone off by about 9.30am - 10.00am. If you have not gotten off by that time they will likely announce "All remaining guests please go to disembarkation point." They cannot let the next people on till all cruisers from the last cruise are off. They will also progressively shut down service as the time goes on. After breakfast there will likely not be any further service provided onboard e.g. no waiters, no bar service, no casino, and no shops. You could sit next to the pool for a while but by about 10.00am they will likely be encouraging you to head on home.

Happy cruising.

My experience with the FLL airport is that they will not let you in line to check in until (I think) it is 3 hours before your flight is scheduled. You will be kept cooling your heels in the lobby. It's crowded with people sitting around on the floor with their luggage. It may be worth checking your luggage at the curb, so that you can get rid of it sooner.

You may want to find something else to do in FLL, so that you are not left sitting around on the floor for several hours.

The next cruise leaves port around 5 or 7 pm the same day so you certainly cannot stay on board. We are in the same situation with a late flight. I found a previous thread that had lots of good ideas about what to do. One was rent a car for the day, pretty cheap for just a half day. Explore Ft. Lauderdale, beach, shopping, etc. Another was they had found a hotel where they could rent for the day and then utilize the pool, spa, shower, take a nap, etc. Worth the $50 or so if you have several in your party.

I would recommend shore excursion from cruise line. They will drop you to airport after all.
