We will be in NZ on Waitangi day, docked in Auckland for the day. Would the tourist bus be operating do you think, & will there be anything special going on around the harbour that we could visit. Thanks for any info :)

Are there no Kiwis out there that have an answer. If it was a question about Australia Day we would have heaps of ideas of whats on. Isnt Waitangi Day the equivalent to Australia day???

sadly waitangi day isnt celebrated like australia day....for reasons i wont go into here. but yes all tourist buses will be going, there wont be anything closed or shut and its treated like any other day. There is usually a yacht race in the harbour, and is a great day to visit the war memorial museum....

Yes, agreed, that is exactly what we found when we were there. Take a look at http://www.eventfinder.co.nz They list what is on.

 

No prob re transport, including the free buses.

Waitangi Day is the commemoration of the signing of The Treaty of Waitangi , between the British and Maori in 1840.

It is sadly just treated as another day....

however being a Public Holiday , everyone working that day , gets a higher pay rate , and business's are entitled to add a surcharge ..... Some do and some don't.
