CruzinSouth Posted June 2, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 2, 2004 What's the difference between ship time and port time? We're going to be visiting Cozumel, Belize, Costa Maya, Grand Caymen, Labadee and Ocho Rios. Is there any time difference between the ship time and time in port? I sure don't want to miss the ship at any of the ports because I'm having too much fun!! Rare geoherb Posted June 2, 2004 #3 Share Posted June 2, 2004 It's safest to find out the difference when you're on the ship, although that sometimes precludes booking your own tours ahead of time. Princess, for instance, usually changes the clocks on the ship to match local time. On our cruise, however, the Grand Princess stayed on Eastern Standard Time while the clocks in the Mexican ports were on Central Standard Time. Daylight Saving Time throws another variable into the equation. Also, we usually plan to be back at the ship an hour and a half before it's scheduled to leave--especially if we've gone some distance away from the dock. You never know when you'll get caught in a traffic jam--even on a tiny island like Grand Cayman.
Nitemare Posted June 2, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 2, 2004 Things like this can vary from cruiseline to cruiseline, from ship to ship, and from cruise to cruise. If you know what ship you're taking, you should ask your questions on the board here dedicated to that cruiseline.
valentina1209 Posted June 5, 2004 #5 Share Posted June 5, 2004 Royal Caribbean Explorer and Adventure stayed on ship's time for the entire cruise, regardless of the time zone we were in. Home Lines Atlantic 7/88; Cunard Countess 6/89; Costa Rivera 6/90; Explorer of the Seas 8/02; Adventure of the Sea 8/03 till the Carnival Miracle
MeowMom Posted June 5, 2004 #6 Share Posted June 5, 2004 I found a cool website that might help you. It allows you to calculate time with something called their future event planner. This is great when you are trying to figure out 'port time' on the particular day you are going to be there. Just type in the port you left from (ship time) and choose the port you are going to and the date you will be there and it will tell you what time it will be at that port on that day. Hope this makes sense The address is www.worldtimeserver.com. katalyst61 Posted June 6, 2004 #7 Share Posted June 6, 2004 Our ship made an announcement about turning our clocks back one hour before we hit the ports. then made another announcement about turning our clocks ahead one hour when we headed back to florida. that way we were always on port time (which was CST). CruzinSouth Posted June 6, 2004 Author #8 Share Posted June 6, 2004 Thanks. Guess we'll just make sure to listen to what the announcement says at each port just to make sure we're back on time. Meowmom - thanks for the site. Will check it out!

I didn't look at the date of the message and then realized it was written in 2003! So I guess by now you have already cruised and know the answer to your question! ;) Silly me!
