Waiheke Island – ferry ride for a day trip. We did this on New Years day, and did the “Around Waiheke Wine Tours”. http://www.aroundwaiheketours.co.nz/ We did the Wine and Beer tour. Great day and can highly recommend lunch at Peacock Sky. Small bus – 20 pax, so can get to the smaller vineyards. We got a deal on GrabOne http://www.grabone.co.nz/auckland for $49 pp (Could be worth keeping an eye on this site for deals around NZ)

Thanks for the info. We are interested in wine tours. We are planning on spending approx. 4 days post cruise in Auckland, so we are looking at doing day trips.

Looking for New Zealand tour operators and lo and behold who do I see but my RCL Brilliance Sandra. What a small world or in this case a very large world. Which cruise are you on this time? We're sailing 2/20/13 on the Radiance. If you've research a lot of the tours which ones sound most interesting to you?

We had a wonderful tour of Waiheke Island that included 3 vineyards with Christine of See Waiheke Tours info@seewaiheke.co.nz

 

And the day we boarded the ship Ian Shirley picked up 4 couples and our luggage (at 3 different hotels!)in the early morning for a wonderful tour out to the west coast of New Zealand. We saw the Waitakere Rainforest, Arataki visitors Center, Muriwai Beach and it's Gannet Colony and stopped at several vineyards on the way back to Auckland.

We chose the itinerary and Ian was a pleasant, informative host.

I think it ended up being about 6 hours. He picked us up at the time we chose and only ended it because we were all ready to go back.

We never felt rushed anywhere.

If you want to do your own things and hire a car, Pegasus car hire are a good mob to book through. They have branches in most main ports and reasonably priced. Ad it is very easy driving in NZ, even if you are on the wrong side of the road!!!
