Don't waste your money on Norwegian Cruise Lines

i believe the poster never stated he was angry with the weather, i interpreted to be that the weather was ACTUALLY FINE, but for some other reason, the itinerary was changed, and poster felt they were misled...

Many factors go into cancelling a tender port. The weather at the time of the scheduled docking is only one of them. The Captain also has to look into his/her crystal ball and try to determine what the weather will be like hours into the future. If the ship is supposed to be there for six hours and passengers will be scattered all over the place the Captain has to guess whether or not they will be able to be transported back to the ship safely when the time comes. A front moving in? Squalls on the radar moving their way? Will that storm change course toward them in three hours?

Yes, there are probably times when a Captain probably could have gotten away with docking because the weather remained calm but that's hindsight talking.

Omg..he was only stating his opinion abt the cruise line...you don't have to agree with it...and again SO WHAT if it was his 1st post.

So far this thread has been riddled with a bunch of miserable condescending comments which were full of assumptions. I don't blame the poster for not getting back on, you've all been so helpful instead of possibly suggesting how he could avoid those issues next time....

This thread has been nothing more than jr high school bullying.. And les watch to see what last dig someone else will have to insert before letting this drop.

Nice making him feel welcome.

Actually many people have provided advise how to avoid his issues in the future. First, do research. If he had read about the ship he would have known about the kids being in separate areas. They also told the OP that he should have immediately gone to the purser's desk and had his room repaired. They also told him that he needed to read his paperwork. I mean, really, he boarded a different ship then he booked! Seriously, you don't think the guy took NO responsibility for his actions. And to blame the captain for his decision based on the weather. Really? How much would the guy have complained if he had been injured due to the weather. I guess next time the Captain should check with him to see if he's doing his job right.

My biggest complaint about the OP is the title of the post telling people not to waste their money on NCL. That is more than just an opinion.

If the OP had titled it something like I am upset with NCL, that would be an opinion.

My wife and I went on a 7 day cruise for our 10 year anniversary with our two children. One was 4 and one 8. No one told us that they would be seperated at the kids club so neither one of them took advantage of that perk. Our pull out bed in the ceiling was damaged so they never fixed it and both kids were forced to share a pull out couch. I booked the trip to enjoy the Great Stirrup Cay excursion but it was canceled without notice due to the Captain said rough waters were to blame. It actually was the nicest day of the trip. Thanksgiving week of 2012. I gotten food poisoning on Friday night and lasted until Sunday of the arrival day in New York. We originally booked our cruise on the Pearl because of the rock climbing wall but it was changed again without notice to the Jewel without a wall to enjoy. A vacation from hell and I am telling anyone who takes this cruise line, you would have a better time wiping your backside with the money and throwing it in the ocean than to give it to Mr. Sheehan. Customer Relations called back and said that our company policy is iron clad and they do not compensate for the weather. The cabin cleaner never reported the bed broke so that too was never on record. A real let down to save to travel on such a poor example of a cruise line.

Sorry you had such a bad experience. We had a great time on NCL and will definitely cruise with them again.

Others have mentioned that some of these issues can happen on any cruise line and offered advice on how to deal with them in the future. Researching before booking is the best way to make sure that your expectations match the reality of the cruise that you're booking. I understand why you're upset to have missed Great Stirrup Cay (I would be disappointed, too), but in the end, the captain makes the safety decision and you still get to enjoy a vacation day on the ship. The kids club issue is standard, the information is clearly communicated on the website, and you should expect the same experience on any cruise line. The broken pull-out bed is unfortunate, but I don't understand why you didn't ask again when it wasn't fixed the first time? I understand the general principle of expecting things to be fixed right the first time, but if it wasn't and it was a big deal to you, why didn't you keep making the request until it was addressed to your satisfaction? No company's customer service can fix problems that they don't know exist, and while it's fair to expect the cabin steward to relay the problem up his/her chain of command, the steward is just one person and may have legitimately dropped the ball on your request. Sorry that you got food poisoning (or otherwise ill while on vacation) - unfortunately that can happen anywhere. Did you report it to the infirmary on the ship?

I have a question about the ship, though. If you booked on the Pearl and were unsatisfied with the replacement of the Jewel, why didn't you contact NCL prior to your cruise? I haven't heard of a cruise line switching ships like that, but I'm new to cruising, so perhaps it happens. If you knew about the ship change in advance, researched the Jewel and found out that it didn't have a rock-climbing wall, and then contacted NCL, I'm sure they would have tried to offer a solution that pleased you. In any case, I assume that there was some notification of the change prior to embarkation day - if not by mail, then perhaps by email or on the online 'plan your vacation' part of the NCL website (can't remember what it's called specifically). How did you book the cruise? I doubt that NCL just randomly switched the ships at the last minute - if the Pearl needed emergency repairs or something, the cruise would have been cancelled, as they don't have empty cruise ships waiting around! Most likely, if a change in ship was made by NCL, it would have been made MONTHS in advance. Perhaps you missed the notice, thinking it was junk mail?

Looks like you didn't hold up your end of the deal. ;)

Opp! My Bad. Well in my defense that ship is actually no longer sailing and is now a floating casino somewhere in China from what I heard. And I will say I was very satisfied with the compensation I received.

And for the record NCL is a great cruiseline and has wonderful, fully functioning ship :D
